PowerDVD 7.3 BD edition bundle keeps crashing after patch

I've recently purchased an external USB blu ray drive (model: Liteon DX-4O1S-03C) I also received a blu ray disc with powerdvd 7.3 BD edition on it. I installed it (on vista 64 SP1) then tried to watch a blu ray movie. The software asked me to download some patch and directed me to the website with a direct link to the upgrade which I downloaded (I tried playing the movie without the upgrade, but then it says it cannot recognize the format - but I can still play normal dvds and such). After installing the latest patch, the program doesn't play anything anymore.
No matter if I try to play the blu ray, a dvd, or even a video file from the harddrive, It just crashes, saying "PowerDVD has stopped working" and close it down. I downloaded the cyberlink BD advisor as well which indicates all green for basic playback of blu ray discs. (however like I said without the patch it doesnt recognize the disc, but with the patch It's literally unusable for anything because it keeps crashing the moment I open anything...)
I'll be able to post exact versions in a couple of hours once I've got back home, in the meantime if anyone had any suggestion, It would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have the same problem.

When i tried to play 300 (on Blu-ray) I got prompted to upgrade to 4617, and so I did and PowerDVD crashed every time I pressed play.

Later that day I got a new prompt to upgrade to 5105 and I did and the result is the same instant crash when I press play.

No matter if 300 is in or the drive or if its empty or file playback is selected.

I also have PowerDVD 7.3 that came with my LG HDDVD Player. I have a stack of HDDVD and I can only watch them on my PC. The player will not play unless upgraded and will not work if upgraded. Maybe, LG/PowerDVD would like to buy back my HDDVD's considering they have taken away the ability to watch them.

I hope there is some way around this problem.
