Where is the setting to use 5.1 surround sound - frustrated new user

I am trying to burn my first Blu-Ray.

I have to render timeline in Sony Vegas, so my original file can't be imported into PowerDir.

I am using HDV 1920x1080 5.1 surround sound

The surround sound imports as stereo! That's my first question.

My second question has to do with the .m2v file that is rendered by Vegas. PowerDir doesn't recognize this format. Is there a lossless method to change it to something else recognizable?

Thanks!

Jeff,

In the Create Disc area at the bottom is a wrench icon, "Configure create disc preferences". Set the Audio box to Dolby Digital and then on the top of this dialog select the Audio tab, check the Dolby Digital 5.1 tick.

Thanks. I was actually trying to find some kind of indication in the Edit area. I finally hit right-click on the timeline track, click Properties and voila.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Okay, the problem still exists.

Yes, the settings on the Create menu are set to 5.1, but the properties tell me its stereo.

I am importing a .wma 5.1 rendered file from Sony Vegas but once it is in the timeline of PowerDir, it says its "stereo"

Help!

I would rather render an .ac3pro file, but Cyberlink doesn't recognize the file.

Jeff,

Your initial post said you were trying to burn your first Blu-ray disc and couldn't set the Dolby 5.1. I indicated were to set that feature when creating a disc, it does not affect what's in the timeline or what the right click on a file in the timeline or library properties indicate. This tick on Dolby 5.1 only affects the audio format that is written to disc.

I have seen what you indicate that if you bring in a Dolby 5.1 file, (say a wma Dolby 5.1 system check file), the properties will just say stereo. If you then produce a file with either the produce option or the create disk/folder option and have Dolby 5.1 ticked and view the created file with like MediaInfo it will indicate that it's Dolby 5.1. Likewise, if you bring this produced file into PD7, it will then say Dolby Digital 5.1 in the right click properties info. It would almost appear that the properties info is not always 100% accurate in PD7, it may depend on the origin of the file.

I took your advice and first opened it with HP's default player - nothing. But then I opened it with WMP11 and properties verified that it is 5.1

Should I take that to the bank?

I wish I had access to surround sound speakers that I could just quickly verify it.

Thanks!

Jeff,

How good are banks these days?

I just took a Dolby 5.1 test track, the old front left, center, front right, back left, back right audio and pulled into PD7 which said it was "stereo", however, I know it's Dolby 5.1. WMP and MediaInfo agree, 5.1. I burnt to DVD in Dolby 5.1 with PD7 and played on surround sound and it appears all the 6 channels played correctly.

The best bank I can provide.
