Some thumbnail images imported into library are just black

I was loading some still image files into the library to use in a new project. Some files, though correctly labelled underneath, appear as a black file. I think it may be happening to images of more than 2 MB in size. Any thoughts on why this happens, and how to solve the problem? Douglas

I had this problem when I imported large files which were located on an external drive or an SD memory card.

I would suggest you load all your assets (pictures, videos etc) in your PD7 working directory and see if that fixes the problem. Also, defrag your disk and ensure the files are not corrupt.

Thanks Con for the comments and advice.
Although I actually only have PD 6 , I am sure that is not the problem.
Indeed, these files were being extracted from an external hard drive where I had stored the images for safe preservation. I have also defragged recently.
I did not understand what you meant by "working directory". Do you mean that I should first bring these files back into my computer "documents", and have PD 6 access the files from there, rather than from the external hard drive? Doug

Yes, try and bring all your files into the one directory so that they are all together on your local drive eg. in your "documents" folder on Drive C: or similar. PD6 should be better able to access the files from there, rather than hunt for them on some external hard drive.

Cross fingers !!

Hi Con & Douglas -
I've had the same thing - images showing up as black. I think it must be a processing problem because, whenever I go to edit the image from the timeline (in Photo Now) it appears correctly. So - even though the pictures appear to be black, they're not. They just occasionally display like that in the preview window.

The images in question always appear correctly in the slide show.

So - Douglas's advice is good - but not the only cause of the issue.

Cheers -
