Okay so I just purchased version 7 after a refund from version 6 (woo hoo)

my problem:
when I click on the capture tab a window pops up saying color scheme has been changed to windows basic.

It goes on to mention that a running program (cyberlink) is interfering. So now I can no longer use my capture card

When I access the options in the cyberlink program I can see my 2 devices. The capture card that came with my computer. (I am unable to select which input I have connected eg s-cable or composite ect) AND the hauppauge hd pvr capture device.

I can only use my hauppauge device now. I can no longer use the capture device that came installed in my brand new computer

help!

yes latest drivers for capture card, video card AND the new update to power director version 7

also when I import high def video that is either .m2ts or .mts power director shuts down completely!

this is starting to be a very frustrating product.

If you had PD6 installed did you do an uninstall before installing PD7?

If you did the uninstall of PD6, did you run a registry cleaner prior to installing PD7?

Anything left over in the registry (even after an uninstall) from a previous version or previous attempt to use current version can lead to problems.

So one remedial action would be to uninstall, run something like Wise Registry Cleaner (a free but very effective and fast operating utility), and then install version 7.

One more question. Did you recieve PD7 Ultra? The Ultra version is required to edit AVCHD.

And it pretty much requires a quad core processor to edit 1920x1080 AVCHD. I can attempt to edit 1440x1080 AVCHD on a dual core laptop but it really struggles hard with it.

Hope you find this info useful

well my videos are all 1280x 720 I will d/l the registry cleaner you mentioned.

Still having freezing issues with my files that end in .mt2s

I have the deluxe version not the ultra.

Also when I import those files with .mt2s it tells me that my settings are different than the video I'm importing and to check my pal/natsc(?) or whatever it is. I've checked it and my files are natsc(?) and not pal... so Idk, this is all terribly confusing and irritating.

Ernest,
I see Bif has pointed you in the direction of the registry and for you to look at your PC's capability.

What is the capture card and what is the source material (from) you are trying to capture with the card please?

Dafydd

And I believe there is your main problem. On the Cyberlink website where they describe the Power Director versions the Ultra version is required to edit AVCHD. Here is the statement:
====================
NOTE: Output to Blu-ray Disc and support for AVCHD and other high-definition formats is available in the PowerDirector 7 Ultra version. Please check the version comparison for a complete outline of the features available.
====================
Both MTS and mt2s are AVCHD

Unfortunately sometimes the error message a software package gives us is not the true error condition. I think what is happening here is that you are giving the Deluxe version a task it cannot handle and it is really confused, so the error condition is gives you is something that will drive you crazy trying to run down.

My suggestion: Get with customer support and see if they will terminate the license for the deluxe version and let you have the Ultra version. Tell them you need to work with AVCHD and did not understand it took the Ultra to do it.

I have the deluxe version and use 1280x720 and M2TS files all the time.

It is not the software version he has since I have the same and it works fine for HD and AVCHD.

So I'm getting conflicting information. That does so much to eliminate confusion

1) I am able to import my m2ts files, AND I am able to edit them, and post them, HOWEVER when I drag them onto the story board an error msg says "Warning, your project contains 1 or more video clips whose tv format is different from your preference settings. Powerdirect will convert the clip, but the resulting video quality will be degraded. It is highly recommended that you use only video clips with the same tv format in the project".

2) The capture device I am using is this
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html

3) my computer is a QUAD core 2.1gig processor with 3 gigs of memory. That should be plenty.

4) My 2 issues are:
a- the error msg's when importing the files
b- the freezing up and the complete shutting down of power director when editing or working on the footage

My videos (I feel) come out beautiful,
http://blip.tv/file/1831066 (select wmv as the format option to view) However the inconvenience of the software shutting down, and the error msgs are irritating and inconvenient, not to mention time consuming as the software has to be restarted.

PAL and NTSC are the two main traditional broadcast TV standards.

check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL for more detail.

The TV settings are set in director's chair>edit>preferences>general and you can set them to reflect your region. It may affect some production/disc burning default options but mostly these can be changed anyway. (I'm not at expert at this end of the business, I don't disc burn much.)

In PD under director's chair>edit>preferences>confirmation you can uncheck the TV format conflict box to get rid of the messages.

Mostly the 'conflict' is broadly irrelevant and can be dispensed with.

Can't help about the freezing other than keeping the system defragged, clean out temp files, keep registry clean etc etc.

Cheers
Adrian

sorry about the rolling eyes above. I understand everyone is trying to help. I do appreciate the information. Cleaning out the system registry has not resolved anything.

I will probably just continue to suffer in silence. Customer service likes to just send a wall of text with lots of things to try. I have dealt with them before and it was not a pleasurable experience.

Thanks again for all your help
