Installing PD 7, Build 2519

I downloaded PD build 2519 onto 2 of my computers with PD 7 running windows XP. On one of the computers, it installed fine with no messages. On the other computer, the patch installation told me that it would have to uninstall PD before proceeding. I remember uninstalling PD for a previous patch and it was a huge mess - I had reinstall the whole program and music files, etc. and it took me hours. Needless to say, I didn't uninstall the progam and therefore the patch did not install.

Is there any way around installing the patch without uninstalling the whole progam? It doesn't make sense to me as the main program is well over 100 MB and this patch is only 50 MB. It seems like the patch would just overwrite the old files like it did on my other computer.

Any ideas?

Cindy

Shoot the computer, scream, pull hair....... cry!

You should not be having that hassle. Better explain what you have on the PC - what's it installing into Cindy. (If it's a multi upgraded version for example)

You can send me a PM if you want or email me - you have my address etc.

Dafydd

Thanks for the information. I thought it was kind of strange. I'm working with the 2429a build right now and everything's working fine, so I think I'll just leave it for now. Cindy

I am having the same problem, only I made the mistake of uninstalling my PD 7 with muliple updates. Then it told me can't install because no PD 7 on my system. So I reinstalled PD 7 from disk and I get the same message to uninstall PD 7 when I try to install the patch. In addition now I cannot reinstall the previous three patches so my program will not load my projects because they were created on a "newer version" of PD 7.

Same message when I try to install previous patches (i.e. please uninstall the PD 7 version). Also, if I say yes to "would you like to unistall now" I get a error message "can't load SKUtil.dll

What can I do?

I'm having the same problem as Robert. Running PD 7 under Windows Vista with the latest MS Updates. Installing the patches until Build 2519 with no problems. After getting the error message "can't load SKUtil.dll" (also running with Admin rights).
I uninstalled PD7 and reinstalled from disk. Now all patches stop with the error message "can't load SKUtil.dll"

Got it!
After uninstalling and installing PD7 there are two folder for PD7 in c:\program files\InstallShield Installation Information

After deleting the older one the patch works.

make a file search for SKUtill.dll. The folders are named like {9867824A-C86D-4A83-8F3C-E7A86BE0AFD3}

Hope this will help you

Thanks for the information . . . Since I didn't get as far as yall of uninstalling PD7 I didn't get the error messages. I'm still trying to decide if I even need the patch as I haven't had any trouble and have some important upcoming projects to complete.

I'm going to have to get my glass of wine before I get brave enough to dig through the uninstalling and reinstalling of PD7.

I do have a question . . . since you were successful with the 2519 patch, did you have to re-download any templates that you may have gotten from Director Zone? I have a pretty nice collection and don't want to start over. AND, did you have any additional music that you may have purchased from Smartsound company (they provide the music in the magic music section). Don't want to have to reinstall thoses cds again either!

Thanks,
Cindy

Hi Cindy,

When uninstalling PD7 you will be asked if you want to uninstall SmartSound, click CANCEL, your SmartSound files will remain intact.

Your Director Zone templates should be stored in a separate file in My Documents, check on your computer where these are stored, if necessary, move them to a new folder and store them on your computer, you can then safely remove PD7
