Analogue capture difficult - using PD6.5

Started using PD6 that came with my new HP to capture and burn video from old 8mm tape. I've invested many hours learning how to use it and developing a work flow to be used for more than 40 tapes, but the software has been crashing over and over on Vista, and when I finally get some completed DVDs, the audio is out of sync with the video.

In the forums it seems that many are having problems with the software crashing and I've seen it in reviews that are several years old. How is it this isn't fixed yet?

Any ideas on the audio sync problem?

Just to add a bit more info, I'm capturing analog 8mm video via a Sony Digital8 camcorder that converts the analog to digital and sends it to the PC via firewire. I've confirmed that the original captered AVI is perfectly in sync, so it's PD6 that is messing it up during the conversion to MPEG2.

I have 6.5.2420.

I did look for patches and found the page you sent a link to, but the older patch says "build 2319" which sounds older than what I have, and the newer patch says "for build 2319" only, so I didn't think either were right for me.

Hi Don,

It's hard to give a definitive answer to your problem because you have an OEM version of PowerDirector. Patch 2319 can only be applied to a full version PD6.

Whilst I have PD7 on my laptop, I still have a full version of PD6 on the desktop with XP. What I do is to connect my old 8mm Analog camcorder to my mini DV camcorder, record, then capture from the mini DV camcorder, have not had any noticeable sync issues.

Searching for "audio sync" I see that many are having this issue, even with 7. Time to checkout Vegas Movie Maker I guess....

Using a Sony TRV510 (digital eight) for playback I can capture HI8 material via firewire using PD7 full version on HP Pavillion notebook with Vista. However when I play normal 8 tapes PD7 halts capture about every 15 seconds. On the other hand, Windows Movie Maker captures the 8mm tapes as AVI files with no problems. Seems like a fixable problem for Cyberlink!
