Power Director 6.5 crashing on YouTube export..

Hi all,
I just recently acquired PD6.5 with DVD Maker 2 and I am having a small problem...

The whole reason I bought it was for the YouTube export feature, because I'd been unable to find any software to make decent YouTube optimised videos with. Either they were very poor quality, jumpy or the audio and video drifted out of sync, so I gather that if PD6.5 had a YouTube export feature then it must surely be fairly well optimised for said website.

Anyway, when I try to post video to YouTube using the software I get as far as being able to authorise PD6.5 in my YouTube account, then I click the next button on PD6.5 and it crashes.

Can anyone help please?

I'm using Windows XP Pro.
BTW, sorry if this problem has been covered before.

Hi Gary,

Can't remember my experience with 6.5. However, many of use don't use the youtube facility in PD but choose to produce to file and then use the youtube uploader (single or bulk).

File formats optimised for the recent upgrade to youtube for HD have been researched. Dafydd has produced a tutorial which nearly always allows HD/HQ display in youtube:-

http://seemyworldonvideo.com/view/425/youtube-hd-tutorial/

Even if the original footage is SD it may present much better if rendered to .mp4 (as in the tutorial) for upload.

I've just re-rendered an old video as an example :

Compare with the original :

Hope this helps.
Cheers
Adrian

..eermm... I am completely lost. How do you get from PD6.5 to Super ©?
I mean, how do you get Super © to export your PD6.5 production?
I watched the tutorial but I don't really get it.

I am completely new to this. I have tried video encoding before but never with very satisfactory results..
Also.. 'seems a bit silly the way DVD Maker 2 is marketed as being able to load straight to YouTube if it crashes whenever you try.. surely this is a fault that needs rectifying? Afterall, you'd should be able to expect a bought and paid for retail product to work properly without crashing.

I don't really need to use HD. The camera I use is standard definition anyway and my videos are all 4:8 ratio. I don't care too much about HD at this stage but would like my videos to be of good, clear quality. In sync and without severe pixelation on the screen.
I note that your standard definition version has a level of pixelation which I, personally, would be unhappy with, even for a standard def. if I compare it to most YouTube videos, including many of my own. Maybe it's because the majority of the scenes contain so much blue?
I have, rarely, by sheer fluke, managed to create and upload SD videos of perfectly acceptable quality using Amcap, but obviously this is no use for editing or creating productions.

I'd use PD6.5 to export files and upload them manually but the export formats seem to be very limited and I can't seem to find an option for exporting standard MP4 files of the correct resolution. (640 x 480 seems to be frequently recommended.)

I am also having a confusing experience trying to upload to YouTube. Working with .MTS files & exporting to YouTube w/PD did not produce an acceptable quality video.
Yesterday, with the help of this discussion, I was able to download & install "Super". The problem is Super will not accept a MTS file but will convert a "M2ts" file. Simply changing the file extension of the original MTS file to M2ts causes an error in Super. Converting the MTS file to M2ts in PD did result in a usable file for Super but was time consuming. Also, all the cross conversions cause further degredation.
What is the best route for me as far as PD is concerned in getting files on YouTube?

Hi again.
I am still struggling with this problem.

In my last attempt I posted using the DiVX option to export from PowerProducer and, despite the original footage being of reasonably high sound quality and in stereo, once posted onto youtube the resulting export had poor, low bit rate audio and had converted to mono.

I still don't know how to use Super ©. The tutorial only explains how to set up the export. It doesn't explain anything about importing your PD6 production into Super © in the first place.

I am actually a professional musician, I use Cubase and am fairly knowledgeable about computers in general but this has got me stumped.

I really want to get posting to youtube.

Can anyone help please?

Hi Gary,

OK, edit your project, select your output choice and produce. We found that producing to .wmv 9 HD Standard quality was OK.

When that file has been successfully produced, open up Super©, follow the tutorial for choosing the output selections and then drag and drop the produced yourfile.wmv file into the 'encoding list ' box, select encode and Super will encode the file to .mp4 placing it in the location you chose, probably the same as the original .wmv file.

That file "should" upload to Youtube in HD using the Youtube uploader as normal.

Hope that helps.

Cheers
Adrian

Hi Gary,

Here’s my 2 cents worth. First, I fully agree with Adrian about uploading to Youtube independently, and not using the Cyberlink uploader.

To use an analogy, and I've said this before, but it seems to me that editing and creating a project for presentation on Youtube, is like building a custom car in your garage. Once you’re done and have it looking good, you naturally want to take it out for a spin on the streets (Youtube), and let everyone have a look at it.
But to my way of thinking, and since “I” was the one who was crafty enough to build it, why would I want Cyberlink to sit on my lap and back it out of the driveway for me? They might accidentally mess something up.
(But yes, some do say that using the Cyberlink uploader, reduces upload times a little.)

After creating and editing a standard definition project in 16:9 for Youtube, I produce/rendered it to...
WMV 9 HD – High Quality – 1440x1080
Once produced and saved to a folder, I then go to my Youtube page, import the produced file and click upload. And I’m usually pretty pleased with the quality it displays in on Youtube. And I don’t at all miss the fact that Cyberlink didn’t coordinate the upload or back it out of the driveway for me.
Also, keep in mind that once you upload (by yourself or with Cyberlink), Youtube “will” do "it’s" processing thing to it. And they seem to constantly be tweaking the way they process vids.

Here’s a link to one of my latest uploads (and I am by no means trying to pimp out my channel here at all). But just by way of example, here's a link to a silly little pseudo animation comedy bit I did. You can see (if you click on the HD tab to view it), that this "standard definition" project, produced to the WMV HD 1440x1080 High Quailty profile (with the audio set to Mpeg Audio), does display on YT's big player, and the quality is quite crisp and clear.

Good Luck!
