Is cd5 worth it for adjusting field of depth?

Is the newest colordirector 5 worth it if I'm aiming to apply field of depth and focus on only certain parts of a video? How's the motion tracking in cd5 now?

Hello trekz,

ColorDirector cannot shift the depth of field of a video. It can simulate that by, say, increasing blur in the background and sharpening the foreground using different masks. Those parameters can be keyframed throughout the clip.

In my view, the motion tracking feature in CDR is still in need of refinement. It can work very successfully with the right clip e.g. a simple scene with a high contrast subject. Of course, the subject being tracked does not typically remain "isolated" from other elements in a scene & that is often where it loses its ability to track.

On a simple "test" using a game play video, Motion Tracker worked fine right up to the point where the subject (in this case a car) got too close to another car with similar colours. That required the mask to be reset before tracking could continue.
