Bluray discs with VC1 codecs do not play properly in 15 or 16 ultra

I think this is a serious issue which either needs patching or Cyberlink needs to issue some guidelines on what settings are required as I found the following older Bluray discs (all use the VC1 codec) to have picture breakup with a green checkerboard pattern for 1 or 2 frames only.

Gremlins 1

Gremlins 2

2001 A Space Odyssey
The Shining (1980)
The Sum Of All Fears

All 4 of these Bluray discs play just fine in the free Media Player Classic HD (using AnyDVDHD to decrypt them first).

It seems that PowerDVD15 & 16 Ultra (as well as the 17 trial) all need patching as they do not as advertised playback older VC1 codec transfers (which is probably why its not been noticed before now). PowerDVD12 works just fine with these discs so something has changed since then.

Please can someone from Cyberlink advise what the settings should be to flawlessly playback the VC1 codec without the green checkerboard pixel breakup.

More recent MP4 Codec Bluray discs play just fine it seems to be Bluray discs circa 2010 or older using the VC1 codec (that's a lot of discs!).

Thank You

I presume Cyberlink developers are not even looking at this yet. Please can Cyberlink buy & test the following on 15 + 16 Ultra as none work as advertised so this is a pretty serious issue! All these Blurays are region free and where ever you buy them from they are the same VC1 codec as all use the existing masters none have been remastered since initial release many years ago.

Thank You

"Decrypted video can be played flawlessly" is not news, but you know...
In your test, the old powerdvd 12 can play them well.

As a community user here, my opinion:
Disable truetheater video effect to play them again.
Install powerdvd at other PC, which has different brand/model vga to check out.

By the way, it seems you specifically want to talk to cyberlink and ask them do some testing for your case on those remastered movies. Contact their support directly although "you think" it's waste of time. Why? Because it's user sharing community here for user experience sharing and talk.

Go to dedicated channel for your needs.

no offense, fyi

Disabling truetheater is not an option as I never use it anyway! Tried installing on other PC's makes no difference its the actual software not doing what its advertised to do due to lack of QA by Cyberlink. Cyberlink support is a waste of time I spent ages going through it with them all they ask for is basic info then offer no solution except reinstall! All they have to do is buy one of these BD's to see the problem themselves!

Free products provide the working solution so if Cyberlink cannot fix this basic issue no point anyone buying their software anymore as 17 also has the exact same problem!!

Hi,

Please reinstall PowerDVD 16 with the following steps:

 1. Uninstall below programs from Windows Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a program. -- CyberLink PowerDVD 16-- All entries of "Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86)"

 2. After uninstallation, reboot Windows.

 3. Reinstall PowerDVD 16 directly without manually installing back Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86).

 4. Check the launch and Blu-ray movie playback condition.

Greetings

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you and thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested and it made no difference whatsoever. But then I also tried Enabling the True theatre functionality and that seemed to fix it along with using Cyberlink Median De-Interlacing. All those BD's I mentioned work ok now. I will keep this open a little longer in case I find anything which is problematic but this is very strange but at least its working now.

Thanks for your help & suggestions.

DVD 16 also does not play ripped Blu Ray DVD's in DTS HD-Master. I posted yesterday and hoped for some Forum members to post solutions to this issue. Now, if the Windows 10 included basic movie and tv app can play them in DTS HD-Master, and VLC can do the same, why can't DVD 16? Anyone anywherte have any answers? I know what I'm doing, I know how to set up VLC for playback, which is a lot more than DVD 16, but DVD 16 does not play them.

Poltergeist1(1982) has the exact same issue and also uses the older VC1 codec.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/DVD-Blu-ray/Poltergeist-1982-Region-Free-Craig-T-Nelson/B001DEUVGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498259445&sr=8-1&keywords=poltergeist+1

Has anyone from Cyberlink bought & tested these discs yet as its looking like as per the title of this thread 15 + 16 cannot play the older VC1 codec mastered Blurays without breaking up into green artifacts on screen.

Quote Hi,

Sorry not being funny but all tech support want is a lot of info like the serial number, OS, PC hardware etc etc & then they suggest reinstalling and nothing else! Your tech support is not offering me any support only doing the most obvious things like removing the software rebooting, deleting all settings, cyberlink profiles then trying again they have no actual technical input to offer beyond that!!

Why do I have to keep providing them all this time consuming info when they just offer basic support anyone could google themselves!

The problem appears to be the VC1 codec (which is no longer used to master Blurays) but many Blurays encoded with it up until 2013 appear to have this issue with PowerDVD15 + 16 so as I said earlier Cyberlink are selling 2 products which are clearly not doing what they advertise to do if they cannot playback VC1 encoded Blurays.

I found another movie from my library yesterday which has the same issue. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) again uses VC1 codec has the same issues as the others regardless of settings used. This one cost £4.99 on Amazon.co.uk right now Cyberlink please go buy it see the problem yourself then fix. PowerDVD12 did not have the problem its only on the more recent PowerDVD's something has changed in how you playback the VC1 codec! Free products like VLC or Media Player Classic do not have this probem either!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nightmare-Elm-Street-Blu-ray-x/dp/B003YCLYSS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498777623&sr=8-3&keywords=a+nightmare+on+elm+street

Johnbruce in my experience cyberlink cs staff should not be paid more than legal min.

On several occasions I have to make formal complaints because the support staff clearly do not read my question properly. For example with the question; I include the receipt number & date of purchase, but they ask me which version and suggest that my PC dosen't meet the hardware requirements, when the receipt is dated a month ago. Also with the question, I include the diacnostics file, but in their reply they ask me for the diacnostic file

I have edited this to be more clear about my problem with this software:

I'm pretty much done with this software after upgrading to PDVD16 my audio is not working with ripped decrypted digital videos using the VC1 codec. All other software media players such as Kodi, WMP & WMPC, VLC, Real Player, Potplayer and even Plex can play my ripped digital content but PDVD16 cannot. I will not be upgrading this software any further as it cannot play my entire digital library and i don't buy Bluray anymore even though it will play those ripped decrypted discs that i own.

I would also add that Kodi has a far better media library interface + addons and its free.

Hi all,

Our developers can't reproduce this issue. They have tested with many vc1 discs, but all of them plays well.

Could you provide your HW info? DxDiag? Thank you.

Cheers,
