I have installed the Windows 10 Creator's Update and PowerDVD 16 was affected (failed at startup). I removed PowerDVD 16 and the startup problems disappeared. I then reinstalled PowerDVD 16 and latest update. PowerDVD will not start at all (even running it as Administrator). Windows compatability troubleshooter made no difference.

When will CyberLink fix this compatability issue?

CyberLink PowerDVD Ultra DVD160516-02.exe

PowerDVD 16.0.2406.60 Patch DVD161012-04.exe

Windows 10 Creator's Update Version 1703

Hi, Jdfrench3,

I also upgraded to W10 Creator update yesterday evening, and I have PDVD 16 Ultra (last patch), and no problem.

PDVD 16 works fine. Jean-Paul

How did you install Creators Update? It is not yet launched in Windows Update.

Since yesterday, it's possible to download and install Creator Update manually by an assistant from Microsoft. Jean-Paul

No, you can't. The tool downloads and proceed to the installation immediately. Jean-Paul

Using Revo-Uninstaller Pro, I completely removed PowerDVD 16 from my PC. Rebooted and reinstalled PowerDVD 16 and its' patch. When I click on the PowerDVD 16 Icon, nothing happens, nothing. Right click on PowerDVD 16 Icon, Run as Administrator, nothing happens, nothing absolutely nothing.....

Windows Event Viewer:

When PowerDVD 16 Icon is clicked:

Error 33 SideBySide

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD16\PowerDVD.exe.Manifest". Dependent Assembly Kanten.X,type="win32",version="1.0.0.0" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diaqnoisis.

I also installed Creators Update.

PowerDVD is working fine. It opens and the movie plays. No errors so far.

There is something though. I have PowerDVD 16 on Start menu.

Instead showing "CyberLink PowerDVD 16"... it says just "CyberLink PowerDVD". I don't know why "16" disappeared in the name. Strange.

Same here. PDVD16 does not start, nothing happens. Creators Update was clean-installed.

Creators Update is new and has bugs. I shouldn't install it. Too late.

A clean install is always better in these cases. You can get the ISO, by downloading the Media Creation Tool here (not the 'Update now' button). Buggy or not, it's an official relase. Not beta or Insider release. Everything works more or less fine.

So... I can get it with Media Creation Tool. Are you sure the Creators Update will be downloaded?

I'm making a bootable USB right now and I'll clean install after that.

Yes. It should be the Media Creation Tool version 10.0.15063.0. Just know that I clean-installed the Creators Update and PDVD 16 does not work here.

1) BIG problem.

Media Creation Tool gives me an error when making the bootable USB.

Windows is downloaded, files verified, but error when creating USB, around 35%. And this USB is new. I installed previous Windows with it. I don't know why I have error.

2) What do you mean by "does not work"? It doesn't even start when double click the exe icon? Hm... I will not reinstall in this case.

Yes, PDVD does not start at all. Contacted CyberLink, let's see what happens.

For your USB issue, I would use a better tool like Rufus. Use the Media Creation Tool to only download the ISO on the HDD, and then use Rufus.

I just clean installed Creators Update. PowerDVD is opening and working.

I don't know why others have errors.

Good to know it works for you. After a few uninstalls/reinstalls, it now works here as well. Weird.
So, if anyone has this issue with the Creators Update, try uninstalling PowerDVD and then reinstall it. Do it again if necessary.

I have the same problem with the initial install of PowerDVD 16 as part of Media Suite 14. PowerDVD16 simply won't open. I installed it when I under Windows 10 Anniversary update, but have the same problem with Windows 10 Creator 1703.

The Event Log error reads:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD16\PowerDVD.exe.Manifest". Dependent Assembly Kanten.X,type="win32",version="1.0.0.0" could not be found.

I found a solution that permitted me to update PowerDVD16 to build 2406, which permits it to work fine.
