1440 and 4k editing in PD15

I currently have PD14, which has serious trouble editing 1440 and 4k videos.

I can't use shadowfiles because the detail is not high enough for me to make proper edits with, using voice over commentary and editing between anywhere from 2 to 5 1440 or 4k video clips.

The audio does not line up with the video, and the video is choppy during the editing process.

There is a workaround that was pointed out to me which I used, but it involves converting the video clips to another file format which makes my files anywhere between 20 and 100gb in size. It works, but the time it takes to convert and the rather huge file sizes makes this an impractical solution for me.

The question is, does PD15 rectify these issues?

That is, can I use the 1440 and 4k mp4 files in pd15 without having to convert them and have a smooth editing experience?

This is not a machine performance issue, as I CAN edit smoothly after converting to these huge files.

When I'm editing the unconverted files, my computer is nowhere near pegged either, it appears to simply be the way PD14 itself HANDLES these files.

I'd really like to be able to stick with PD because I know fairly well how to use it.

If PD15 handles 1440 and 4k I will purchase and upgrade right away, but as it stands, either struggling through the near unusable editing process or converting files (using the process outlined here: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/51176.page) is just too much to want to even bother.

So, does PD15 fix these issues?

Please let me know.

Thanks

If the original format is Apple's .MOV, there is no solution since Apple wanted to criple the Windows plugin for that (and they didn't allow for others to make their own plugins).

You have three options:

  1. Stop buying products that save in Apple proprietary format.

  2. Buy an Apple computer and software for editing those formats.

  3. Keep doing what you are doing now.

What does MediaInfo say about the MP4?

https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

Use the TEXT mode, upload the text version.

I think you will find that MP4 videos have an Apple or Quicktime based codec. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Weird, those should be fine. h264 or h265 encoded?

(nVidia states shadowplay files are h.264)

Maybe I should ask this question more directly.

1440 and larger video captures are known to have issues editing in PD 14, which is what I currently use.

The workaround takes far too long and makes me deal with multiple 100gb files.

My question is if PD 15 is better at dealing with 1440 and 4k files. 4790k - 16GB 2133MHz - GTX1080 - Crucial 500GB MX200 SSD - Intel NVMe 750 400GB SSD - ADATA SP600 256GB SSD - 2x 500GB WD HDD - Samsung 28" 4k - ASUS 28" 1080 - Windows 10 64

answer is no!

in my experience, it's the bitrate!

PD sloooooows down bitrates around 50+ Mb/sec.

my pc is slow compare to yours. i can play 80Mb/sec HEVC H.265 without any problems using MPC-HC, however.

in the PD's preview, forget it...

be patient.

me

first, i convert, RockyMountains Movie Converter, them to anywhere between 7-10Mb/sec 1080.

if you want more details then upto 17Mb/sec...

edit

at the final produce, close the edited poject then substitute with master(so the videos will have same titles).

open the project

produce

second, i use MPC-HC for play back and edit as i go. yes, that means writing down minutes seconds, etc

where you want to edit.

if the first method doesn't work then second will... always think outside of the box...

if you want to, as you know you can buy the full version of PD 15 from the website and you have 30 days

to try'em out.

So... what works with 1440 and 4k then? 4790k - 16GB 2133MHz - GTX1080 - Crucial 500GB MX200 SSD - Intel NVMe 750 400GB SSD - ADATA SP600 256GB SSD - 2x 500GB WD HDD - Samsung 28" 4k - ASUS 28" 1080 - Windows 10 64

speaking from using two NLEs (PD12/14 & Vegas 13/14)

none!

i do a work around as i've posted.

your video bitrate is 70+Mb/sec ??? helllo??? surprised

this is where PD(or Vegas) is having a give me a second, wait a second deal...

do a test.

take 2k and 4k at less than 20Mb/sec and let your PD14 do it's thing.

you'll see it for yourself that your system(and or PD) zingz...

AVI is 20+years old. why would you want to use the old fart??? ^^

i don't think nVidia's driver for PD hasn't caught up yet either. vice versa.

and yes, PD14 IS faster than Vegas baby!

I'll try some lower bitrate videos and see how it goes. 4790k - 16GB 2133MHz - GTX1080 - Crucial 500GB MX200 SSD - Intel NVMe 750 400GB SSD - ADATA SP600 256GB SSD - 2x 500GB WD HDD - Samsung 28" 4k - ASUS 28" 1080 - Windows 10 64

I don't think any of this really helps as when you're in produce mode, you don't even get an option to produce at 1440p. That's what I want to be able to do. It's funny how that resolution didn't make it into this version or even that one could set up that resolution in a custom profile. I believe this is my last time buying PowerDirector just for this simple and easy to fix reason.

Is that 1440x1080? In PD15 64Bit on Windows 10 is that resolution possible.

And that you will not buy PowerDirector again is really a pity, but I think, Cyberlink can bear it. So if you want a feature, tell it the Cyberlink support and see, what they do. And the market is full of good and not so good cutting progs. Choose wisely :

Hi -

It's true that 2560x1440 isn't one of the standard options for customising a profile, but you can get that by modifying the Profile.ini.

The same question was discussed in this thread.

I've tried that method over 20 times trying to get something to work. What I want to achieve is 2560x1440p @ 60fps. When I have gone through all the steps, it always changes the height.

Here's the profile before.

&<Class>MPEG-4 AVC<Name>1440p<Description>1440p<Output FileName> <DescID>11920<NameID>21005<Group>2<File Format Class>11<Video Format Class>8<Audio Format Class>10<Stream Flag>3<Field Order>0<Attribute>40083<Video BitRate>60000000<Min BitRate>30000000<Max BitRate>60500000<Video Quality>0<Video Width>2560<Video Height>1440<Frame Rate>59.939999<Profile Level>65380<Pattern>IBBPBBPBBPBBP<Pre Processing>0<Resize>1<Flip Video>0<Speed Quality Indicator>6<Interlacing>0<Encoder Mode>0<App Type>2<Dynamic GOP>0<Deblock>1<EntryMode>1<Encoder Type>32<Audio Layer>2<Audio Mode>2<Audio BitRate>384000<Audio Channels>2<Audio SamplesPerSec>1<Audio BitsPerSample>1<Misc>0<SamplesPerFrame>0&&

And after I've started and close Power director 15

&<Class>MPEG-4 AVC<Name>1440p<Description>1440p<Output FileName> <DescID>11920<NameID>21005<Group>2<File Format Class>11<Video Format Class>8<Audio Format Class>10<Stream Flag>3<Field Order>0<Attribute>40083<Video BitRate>60000000<Min BitRate>30000000<Max BitRate>60500000<Video Quality>0<Video Width>2560<Video Height>32763<Frame Rate>59.939999<Profile Level>65380<Pattern>IBBPBBPBBPBBP<Pre Processing>0<Resize>1<Flip Video>0<Speed Quality Indicator>6<Interlacing>0<Encoder Mode>0<App Type>2<Dynamic GOP>0<Deblock>1<EntryMode>1<Encoder Type>32<Audio Layer>2<Audio Mode>2<Audio BitRate>384000<Audio Channels>2<Audio SamplesPerSec>1<Audio BitsPerSample>1<Misc>0<SamplesPerFrame>0&&

As you can see, it changes the height to 32763 every time. Am I missing something?

Hi mrallroy -

Hmm - can't replicate that here.

I pasted your profile text into my Profile.ini & there's something odd about it. When I open it in Word Pad, it doesn't display like the rest of my Profile.ini

Next I created a fairly identical profile & did a test render. It worked OK. See attached Media Info from produced file & the text for Profile.ini

Cheers - Tony
