Cannot install patch...

I got a version of Powerdirector 5 with my JVC camcorder this summer. Well last week I purchased PowerDirector 7 and installed it with no problem. Today, I downloaded the patch for PD7 and tried to install. At the end of the installation, I got a failure to install because it is only for purchased versions. Well, I purchased it straight from Cyberlink.

I had already unistalled the PD5, so how do I fix this so that I can get the patch?

Do you need the patch?

Check the version which you've downloaded from CyberLink - it will be the latest and there would be no need to apply a patch.

Look in:
Director's chair icon > Help > About
The full version of PD and numbers will be viewable - please state in your reply what these are. Also check the numbers against the patch.

7.00.2206 is the downloaded version. When I was working in the program yesterday, I had a popup in the corner of my screen telling me that this was available. CyberLink.1915_Patch_VDE080708-01

I also found that this one was available as well. Do I need them? CyberLink.2227c_Patch_VDE080909-01

Thanks, James

ah...the pop up was an issue for 2206.

Patch. Yes download and apply 2227c.
1. Make sure you are installing as the admin.
2. make sure you've closed PD down.

I did just that..... But it still recognizes me as having the non-purchased version. How do I convience this patch that I do have the purchased version? I already unistalled the OEM version of PD5.

I had the same issue last night.

Even though I'm on the 2227c patch, a patch update notice for 2227c popped up every time I opened PD7.

When I clicked on that notice, it opens a web browser to the old 1915 patch. (I got curious). On top of that there's no date or patch version information on that page. Further, if you download that patch it will install!

Very very sloppy Cyberlink.

No it won't on mine. I've tried both patches and they both say that I must have the purchased version, which I do. Thanks anyway though...

Sounds like you fellas may have some registry entries left over that are causing some "grief"

I would try this:

Uninstall PD7
Run Wise Registry Cleaner (A free program from www.wisecleaner.com/download.html )

Then install your purchased version of PD7 and try to run the patch.

You may have some "leftovers" in the registry from PD5 as well, uninstalling a program does not always get rid of all registry entries and the uninstall, install, uninstall, install again routine often attempted keeps leaving irrelevant registry "stuff" there. Then when you try to run a patch that finds this "crap" and "barfs"

Wise Registry Cleaner is a very good little utility and I use it every time I have to uninstall something (after the uninstall). It seems to find these "leftovers" and gets rid of them for me.

Good luck.
