COMPUTER CRASH destroys original file and Cyberlink upgrade

Friends,

I have used powerdirector for almost 10 years to make videos for our Church. No matter, each year I have upgraded it seems. This year after recording video I upgraded with a Upgrade to PowerDirector 14 Ultimate from v.11-13. I purchased it from within the version 11 program. Straightforward enough.

My hard drive dies. I lose the program files and all I have is a page of product keys from the v14 upgrade.

Logged into Cyberlink and they have my key and me registered still with v.11 (didn't finish the registration process).

PROBLEM-- my new pc has no PowerDirector at all, I log onto Cyberlink and find my v.11 product key, but I have not PowerDirector 11 Ultimate program to install. I thought of installing the trial and inserting my keys, but the trial for v.11 is not there.

Great if I get v.11 back, but I had started working with v.14 on my new file before I lost the hard drive.

Ideally, I reinstall v.11, then find the upgrade programs too... because I have keys for them too.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Ken,

Just get in contact with customer service and they should give you the download links to all your software. Just make sure you have your order numbers or the email address you purchased the software with from the CyberLink Store:

https://membership.cyberlink.com/support/customer-services.do

https://www.cyberlink.com/support/service/free-voice-support.jsp

FYI, trial versions of software cannot be activated.

Free software like AOMEI Backerupper could have prevented this dilemma.

I learned the hard way, over 10 years ago, to backup my PC having not just a backup but a clone as well.

And that has saved my hide many times.

Also partition your new hard drive, put the operating system and programs in partition C and videos in an other partition or better yet in an other HDD drive internal or external.

Live and learn.

Good luck

Eugene

Eugene,

Always good to back up computer, but the problem is that many people don't realize they must retain the email which has the product keys as well as the downloaded program files, even after they've been installed. Seems to me this should be in bold print on the first line of the emails from CL that provide the keys and program files. Regards,
Dan

Good point, I doubt that I still have the email. However after downloading the upgrade from CY I burn it onto a DVD so that I can re-install later. The codes are written on the DVD cover but I also include a file so that the code can be used copy/paste.

I had to do that a couple of month ago when my i7 pc died and was replaced with a new i10 pc. I chose to install everything from scratch. The PC has 3 inexpensive trays that allow the three HDDs to be pluged in from the front, so they can be exchanged in less than a minute. That is how I make a clone and use that clone for a week to be replaced with the next clone. The clone is sitting in a desk drawer.

So if a HDD dies I just remove it and replace it with last weeks clone.

And FULL backups to two external HDDs as well. Belt AND suspenders.
