PD 13 crashes during project import

I'm running PL 3513 of PD13 and experiencing repeatable program crashes
every time I'm in the Create Disk function and attempt to ADD one
project to an exisiting project. I have recreated the primary and 2ndary
projects multiple times. Each of them ON THEIR OWN loads fine as does
the menu I've used for that project.

But open a NEW project, go to create menu and ADD projects and CRASHOLA.

I'm running Win7 with all the current updates.

Is this a known problem?

I'll happily upgrade to PD 15 if this was fixed. If not then I might as well quit while I'm ahead.

I only do these complex projects once per year. I was able to successfully import and burn ISO files of 2 similar projects, but even those I had multiple crashes before I was able to import the 4 project files into the project.

It was suggested that I run dxdiag, but I don't know what that is.

Additional info: PD13 is installed on an SSD drive G and the project files are on the same drive. I don't know why this would make a dif.

You do have the very minimum cpu in the computer for HD video editing in my view. Go to Preferences/File and let us know which of the drives house your File Import and File Export folders.

Well, my laptop that has PD13 on it and has even less capability doesn't have the problem, so that leads me to believe that it's something about this installation causing the issue.

I've changed the import/export folders to be either the C or G (ssd) drives....makes no diff.

Still crashes.

The 240 GB ssd drive G: only has 10.6 GB free. That is not enough free space to create a 25 GB BD (Blu-ray disc). The boot drive C: does have 255 GB free and should have been okay. 60GB free hard drive space is said to be the minimum to create a BD and allowing the temp files to be created.

I think that you answered your own question here that PD13 does not crash on your less capable laptop. Upgrading to PD15 is not going to help as it is not a known problem to me.

I did check the product help for crash. There is a new nvidia driver 342.01 released dec 14, 2016 that you can install to see if it fix the problem. If the problem is still there then you can contact Cyberlink support and start a new ticket with them in the meantime while awaiting suggestions from other users.

I'll eventually figure out what's goin' on here. Main thing is that I know what I'm reporting is not a KNOWN issue.

The number one issue for crashes can be the video driver. You are right to update it. You may lose hardware acceleration or encoding with newer drivers but your system can be more stable with the update.

Found the PD13 minimum requirement for hard drive space here: http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=17743&prodId=4&prodVerId=-1&CategoryId=-1&keyword=blu-ray .

A contributor pointed out that PD15 only required 7 GB free of hard disk space instead of the required 60 or 100 GB for the older versions to create a BD. That is found in the spec of PD15 here: http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultra/spec_en_US.html .

BD creation in the authoring creates the temp files and folders or an image on the hard drive first before burning it to disk. Unless there has been major changes 7 GB free may not be enough to create a 25 GB BD unless the BD < 7GB in size. PD15 may or may not work better for you.

You may want to ask cyberlink support these questions to get their answers.

Thanks, I'm only creating a DL DVD, not a BluRay.

So, I decided to install an ATI video card in the system with current drivers.

Made no diff...still crashes when inserting multiple projects.

Next, I think I want to reinstall PD13 BUT I'd like to know where I can find all the custom menus I've modified/created. The thread on this board indicated they're "all over the place."

The custom menus are located in Documents\Cyberlink\Custom Menus\3.0\. The menus are in folders Menu_??? where ??? is from 000 up to whatever is the highest number of your created custom menus.

So, I think I somehow fixed this issue.

It had NOTHING to do with where the program was installed, how much remaining disk space there is, etc.

I looked at the settings that "worked" on my laptop and I started changing the few things on the "broken" system. There weren't many things different (the files path was different but I didn't change them). I'm THINKING that what made a difference is the hardware acceleration Enable OPEN CL. It was checked on the broken system but not the working one. SO, I unchecked it and saved the settings.

I'll finish the project I'm working on now and then I'll report back on specifically which setting(s) caused the breakage.

Still experiencing random crashes, but I managed to finish the project.

Each DL DVD consists of approximately four 1.5GB projects each with 5-20 chapters.

Each project is selectable from the main menu and each project contains its own chapters.

I think I will upgrade to PD15 and try my luck w/that.

The laptop that I reported didn't crash....it did.....it just crashed less often.

My DVD consists of four bands....each selectable from the main menu.

On each bands page, I can select the individual songs they played in their concert.

That is good news that you were able to finish the project. There may be things that can be done to reduce or stop the crashing on that pc. Based on your information you have just given. Each of the project is about 20 minutes in length. You are burning mpeg-2 in the HQ (8Mbps) mode.

Some contributors have advised users to pre-produce a project and then add the chapters to the project. This eases the strain on some computers to allow complex timeline projects to finish without problems. Please supply the following information:

What are the source file resolution, bit rate, frame rate, and format ?

Is the above assumption on project length and bit rate correct? If not please give the correct information.

Upgrade to PD15 and the PD13 pds project files can be reused. Let us know also if it also works for you.
