On the lower right under "profile" what options do you see?

Why is mpg2 not acceptable to you? Too many video format changes will cause degradation of the video. If you will eventually want to burn the project to a DVD/AVCHD/Blu ray, Mpg2 works. AVI files are larger but MAY be better IF you are doing a lot of editing. .

There is a Profile and a Settings button on the Capture page to allow the change. I see that Stevetek already answered first while I was still checking it.

I do recall that mpeg-2 captures with pinnacle and later burn to disc after editing was not as sharp as dv-avi captures to later create a dvd(mpeg-2). That was many years ago. My xp machine had a P4 3Ghz. Today I am using a I7 and times have changed. Maybe a faster machine can create mpeg-2 on the fly much better.

Different people see things differently like there was a user who insist SP and EP mpeg-2 captures look the same to him. See this link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/47074.page . I know dv-avi gives the best quality. A newer faster computer could narrow the quality gap considerably as stevek want to point out. Only you can determine if it makes a difference to you.

Oh I see it under profile. MPEG-2 is perfectly acceptable with me. I just wanted to know where the option was to change it. This is new software to me and I am learning it. Thanks I appreciate the help. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

I have several miniDV movies from years ago. Just had to purchase a Sony DCR-HC62 to start making these. I am a bit rusty. I have many didgital8 tapes to capture as well. Those will go slower because have to use a USB 2.0 connection which is the interface. The Sony is using a Firewire connection. This is a Windows 10 64bit system, i7, 16GB DDR4, with SSD and SATA drives as well. It has a GTX980 NVidia video card. Win 10 64bit

Thanks. Capturing the tapes now. I did find the settings. Still learning the software. I appreciate the help. I'm sure we'll be talking again. Thanks. I'll let you guys know how they come out. Win 10 64bit
