Produced M2TS files 3X larger than expected.

As a new user of PD, I am curious to know what I am doing to make my output "produced" file M2TS about 40 Gb instead of the normal 10 - 15 Gb I was getting for the same length of HD video previously. Not sure what I changed in my settings but it is eating up my memory like crazy. The videos I am producing are about 2 hours in length and are all shot in HD.

I am taking the Udemy course for PD to get up to speed, but there is so much to learn and so many variables I am getting confused and frustrated. I upgraded from PD 13 to PD 15 but then began to have issues with quality of produced videos freezing up and am now going back to PD 13. I have seen suggestions for prioritizing PD in my Task Manager so that may help.

I noticed the "shadow" file box is checked in my settings, is this causing part of my additional memory problem?

I also noticed an application running in my task manager showing a large chunk of my CPU being utilized for a process identified as "PDHanumanSvr Application," see attachment. When I googled this I got all kinds of mixed information from a virus to Cyberlink using it to create a shadow file. Do I need this application running to produce my videos? As it is, it takes about 6 hours to produce a 2 hour HD video.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The single most important parameter for file size is Bitrate. Try this: In the PD14 project right mouse click on the original file thumbnail and click View properties. Write down the video resolution, frame rate , and bitrate. Do the same for the produced video file. The produced video bitrate may be 2 to 3 times that of the original.

You should produce the video to the same parameters as much as possible to the original for best results.

Hi ReadyRob

This could be something as simple as choosing the wrong option at the "produce" stage. Make sure that you select H264 AVC or similar to produce MP4 - selecting AVI for instance, will make your files much larger just as you describe.

Shadow files are funny things and they can cause funny things to happen. The first thing you may notice is that when you are using shadow files you get a tiny yellow or green film clip on bottom left of your clips in the Media Room. Yellow means the clip is not ready for editing and a green one means the clip is ready. HOWEVER, make sure that all your clips are green before starting to edit, otherwise some strange problems can occur. The second problem with them is they can take forever to all turn green. If you can possibly avoid using shadow files, try to do so. There are other much quicker options available should you require them. Just a thought - I hope this helps you
