Blur something in the background with Cyber 14?

Full disclosure, I was thrown into a new role at work and have to start using this software to clip videos etc....

I can do the basics, which are fairly easy but I need to start learning new things.

Todays question, can you blur out part of an image in the video?

I have a guy talking in 1 of the clips, in the background is a drawing that my engineering guy says he wants blurred out before i can release the video externally. I have no idea if that can be done with cyber 14.

I picked my user name based on my nickname, and my dogs name combined.

Hi there:

There are some NewBlue effects that can be used but using and modifying the Blur effect in the Style category is probably the most straightforward way. Modifying the mask is not working on my computer though, so I can't confirm this is really a solution…

I see the following rooms in Cyber 14 on the top left, from top to bottom

Media, effects, pip, particle, title, transition, audio, voice over, chapter, subtitle.

I don't see a style category, help : Cyberlink Noobie, be gentle :

Go to the Effect Room (F4). You will see the Style category on the left and the effects are listed alphabetically by their name…

can I apply the filter to only a small section of the screen? When I drop the filter I want (new blue soft focus) onto the clip , it blurs the whole clip not just a small part of it Cyberlink Noobie, be gentle :

Well, NewBlue is the name of a company that develops video software integrated in PowerDirector as plugin modules. I have quite a lot of them, different ones being installed with each new version of PowerDirector I have had: 9 through 14. That's why I didn't mention any specific one of them since you may not have the same one.

You should have, I expect, an effect called Blur when you click on Style in the list you mention in your last but one post above. That's the one I had in mind. You can either put it on the fx track below Track 1 or drag and drop it directly in the video clip on a track. To modify properties of the effect, use the Modify button when the effect is selected on the fx track or the Effect button if it's applied on the video clip directly (yellow letter i shown on the left of such a clip). One of the properties is Mask, which allows you to adjust the size, and location of the blurred region. Two shapes are available: box and circle. Then you can adjust some other parameters but you'll see for yourself once you get to the right window…

If you click on FX on the Left pane, Select All Content on the dropdown above, the effect will be listed in alphabetical order, Look for "Blur".

Place it in the FX track, click on the effect, Click on Modify on top of the timeline. you can make many adjustments to the blur effect including using the Mask to select the object to blur, other parameters can be used to adjust the effect.

Blur is also in the Style folder. As Jirka.Bolech said. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.
