Here is what I have found so far. If I take a photo (jpg) with my drone, it is stored on an sd card. If I ask PD14 to import the photo from the sd card, I get a black box. If I take the sd card and send the picture to a file and then try to import, I also get a black box.
BUT, if I upload the picture to Amazon Cloud, then from there, copy it to my desktop, the ask PD14 to import it from the desktop, IT WORKS!
Such a hassle! I don't know how to get it to import from the sd card or the file.

The transfer speed of sd card to your pc is too slow. That is why you get the black box. Copy those files from the sd card to a created folder on your pc internal hard drive first. Let it finish copying. Then you should be able to import those images to the PD14 media library.

tomasc, Some of those jpgs have been on my computer for months. I'm not sure that's the issue?

Hi Bob -

I'd support Longedge's suggestions.

There do seem to be a few concerning things in what you've said, not least of which is the idea tha uploading a file to Amazon Drive then downloading it somehow magically causes the problem to go away. surprised

I tried it for myself with your JPG & a bunch of other JPGs & DNGs from the same FC330 camera. The uploaded/downloaded photos are identical in every respect, meaning there's no reason one would work & the other wouldn't.

Try Longedge's suggestion. P.S. Did that resized version of your photo display properly in PDR?

Cheers - Tony

Good morning gentlemen and thanks for the help.

So I read your posts today. I got the drone and did some new videos and photos.

I then took the sd card out of the drone and d/l them to a folder I placed on desktop, and I removed the sd card from the card reader. I then started PD14 and imported the files from desktop. The videos (.mp4) imported perfect. The photos (.jpg) showed as a black box.

After that, I uninstalled PD14 and re-installed it and tried the process over again with the same results.

I am at my wits end.

I haven't gotten that far that I have tried to produce anything. I am only on day 3 of owning this software.

It sure is a troubling problem, Bob. No wonder you're at your wit's end.

From everything you've posted it seems that some photos that display fine in a photo viewer on your PC don't display properly in PDR. e.g. the higher res photos from your DJI & Canon A720. I don't know why that is, but it seems to rule out the idea that the files themselves are the issue.

More information is needed:

  1. Do follow up Longedge's screenshot suggestion to show us exactly what you see in PDR.

  2. I'll ask again - does the attached (resized) version of your DJI photo display properly in PDR?

  3. It may be worth posting a DxDiag report for your PC. Something might show up as an issue.

The only other, admittedly long shot, suggestions I could thing of would be to:

  1. Download & install these camera codecs - https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=26829

  2. Download & install the most recent driver for your GPU.

Cheers - Tony

Sorry but I have been so busy with other things today, I haven't had time to play with PD14. I fly this drone as an additional source of income for real estate agents and thought this new editor would help out. I was using Windows Movie Maker and thought this would be better.

Ynotfish, how I "resize" the photo?

Bob -

I wasn't asking you to resize the photo. I was asking you to see whether the photo I attached would display properly in your PDR14, just as it did in Longedge's screen capture. Could you check that please?

I resized it in Paint.NET by selecting Image > Resize, then Save As... I did that because you "seem" to be having trouble with higher resolution photos.

Thanks for the screenshot. What happens when you drag the photo to the timeline? Same?

Cheers - Tony

I may have got it! It is resizing. My originals were set at 4000X3000. If I resize them to 1280X960 they show up! Now I need to see if I can get my drone to take lower resolution photos. I'll keep you guys posted, but this looks promising. I'll have a drink.

I don't think there are many photo resolution options on the DJI's camera (assuming you don't have it rigged up with a non-standard camera). I believe you can switch between 4:3 & 16:9.

You could just use a batch resizing tool.

Still baffles me why your PC can interpret lower res imagaes but not 4000x3000px (which is pretty modest anyway).

ynotfish, you're right on about the dji camera. I guess I just have to learn to resize all of my jpg's before importing to PD14. Tell me more about a batch resizing tool?

See this sticky and supply Part A and Part B. That should help us determine why the root problem may be.
