Is it possible to capture avhcd video using a trial version of PowerDirector 7? When I start up PowerDirector with my camera connected and click the capture tab, I get the following error:

"Failed to load disc content. The disc does not contain any content supported by CyberLink PowerDirector."

Can someone please advise. I do not want to purchase this software unless it can capture my recorded video.

You don't really "capture" from a HDD or flash camera. The files are recorded in a format already compatible with PD7 (AVCHD editions ie Ultra) Try transferring the files to your PC hard drive using either Sony's own software or just windows explorer. Then use the "open file" in edit mode of PD.

Ok, I can do that, but why does the software have a tab to "capture" from "DVD/AVHCD camcorder"?

I will try transfering the files using my Sony software and editing them. I'm assuming that will work. I want to test the software quite a bit before buying. I've purchased pinnacle studio in the past with older cameras and had bad problems with the software chrashing. Thanks for the the response.

I don't even bother using the Sony software to transfer the files. I copy the raw *.MTS files from the camera to my hard drive. The only thing I can see the Sony software doing is it creates a dated folder and converts the files to *.M2TS as well as creating 2 additional files for each M2TS. To be honest, I'm not really sure what purpose these additional files serve. I have heard that if you film continuously for a very long time, the camera will automatically break it up into multiple MTS files. Not sure if the extra files are used to tie the multiple MTS files together during the transfer (using the Sony software) or not. Again not sure on that.

After connecting the camera with the supplied USB cable, I then turn on the camera and place it into USB mode.

After that, the camera behaves as just another external drive. I then browse to the folder containing the MTS files and copy them to my project capture folder.

Then I just open Power Director and using Windows Explorer, drag the desired files into the work area (Edit tab selected).

This has worked for me so far with no apparent problems.

Hope this helps.

Peace,

Dan

Ok, thanks for the help everyone. If anyone gets the capture portion to work in PowerDirector, I'd be interested in seeing it work, other than that, I'll continue testing to make sure I can edit.
