The issue has been passed onto the engineers. Just to clarify, the clip you gave as a sample - was it supposed to have audio on it or not?

Thanks for your follow-up and feedback.

The WMV sample that I provided as part of the sample project does have an audio stream even though there should be no sound per se in this stream. It's the original file. I did not expect to record an audio stream as there was no sound to record for my purpose.

When I first dragged the WMV clip on the first track of the project both the audio and video previews appeared on the timeline as expected, it's when I close the project and reopen it that things go wrong. I hope this answers your question. Best Regards,

Feedback: CyberLink have tested the 3rd party software. A MP4 video recorded by the 3rd party software will not
cause the problem in PowerDirector. The mp4 profile looks to be a workaround solution.

Thanks for your information and feedback. So I will select the MP4 container format if I have to do screen captures again. It seems like only the Windows Media codecs are supported in the settings but as long as it would work it's fine.

For my current video, I use the WMV clips converted with Handbrake to MP4 with the audio stream removed. For now everything seems OK.

I am not ready to publish yet but I am wondering if PD14 can produce a MP4 format fully compatible with YouTube. In PD13, it seems like only the WMV format was actually compatible with YT, I mean without on-site recompression. I want to avoid recompression to maintain the HD quality as much as possible.

Go to Produce,
Selected a H264/MP4
Select a profile/template or use Intelligent SVRT
Upload manually to your YouTube account.

Intelligent SVRT works only if you have captured or have video that matches the parameters available. You may need to adjust the Handbrake output/mp4 to match what PDR14 will output so re-rendering is not necessary.

Personally I wouldn't choose to capture to wmv format if I was aiming to carry out a lot of editing on the clip and re-rendering (SVRT is not available on wmv). Wmv is already a highly compressed format and doesn't like being re-rendered much. I would, I do, capture to mp4 etc etc.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for your advice, hopefully I will be able to try this out by the end of the week.

Unfortunately, I have already converted my files to MP4 using Handbrake and also made some more progress in my video editing so I'd not want to redo it all once again. I will see how it goes when I'm ready to produce.

Since I edit videos very occasionally I did not want to invest too much in a screen capture program and picked one that seemed to be best suited for my purpose at a good price. I'd need a screen recorder that does H.264/MP4 and highlights left/right mouse clicks and as lightweight as possible.

My current video edit mostly has .MTS/H.264 clips from a HD camcorder, with just some MP4 (previously WMV) clips and a mix of JPG and PNG pictures.
