I'm sure this has been asked before, but given most forums have crappy search functions, I'll just go ahead and ask.

I'm needing to combine both a crop and a pan in a video clip. For instance, let's say I have a 15-second video. For the first 5 seconds, I want to crop down to the left side of the video. For the next 5 seconds, I want to crop AND PAN across the video to the right. And for the final 5 seconds, crop to the right side of the video.

In short, I want to edit a wide-angle scene to mimic someone using a camera on a tripod..... not touching the camera for 5 seconds, then panning to the right for 5 seconds, then stop panning and continue recording for 5 seconds.

It seems PD14 is required to zoom when you crop. I do not want any zooming. Just crop and pan.

I hope this makes sense.

If you are going to crop, how (or what) will you be using tho file the rest of the screen?

Add something to the main track and add the video that you want to work with to the second track.

I'm cropping 4k video. My end aim is a 1080p video, so cropping and filling the screen is no problem.

I don't want two video tracks, just one.

I can only crop and zoom. PD14 won't let me do anything else.

I don't see how adding another video track is going to solve anything.

I know what cropping is. I've been shooting film since 1965, so this ain't my first rodeo.

OK, so I "added 'something' to the main track" and inserted the video I want to edit to the second track.

NOW WHAT?
What am I supposed to do with the video in the second track that I cannot do if the video is in the first track?

place your targeted video in a timeline and click on it to make sure it is high-lighted.
A series of buttons will appear, one of them is TOOLS. Click on it.
Click POWER TOOLS.
Click CROP & ZOOM.
Click CROP/ZOOM.
You will see a typical PowerDirector key-frame interface and though there are tutorials I have little doubt you'll have it down in minutes. Good luck.

It crops AND zooms. And it does so over the entire video. I don't want to do either. I want to crop then entire video. And pan during that crop.

I don't want to zoom, but PD14 will automatically zoom when I crop. There are no options to turn off the zoom.

The default 1st key-frame is full screen. The end default key-frame actually is a zoom, a point that has been a bit of a thorn in many sides.
Set the 1st key-frame as you wish, and before adding ANY others, go to the final END key-frame and use the duplicate function to copy the previous first key-frame.
Now, in between the 1st and the end key-frames you can do as you wish, as much as Pan and Zoom are concerned, even stop motion at any point and resume again.

Maybe a better name for the function would be CROP/ZOOM/PAN.

Yeah, you can call it zoom, but zoom means the crop changes during the clip. I don't want that. I want to crop of the original file to remain the same.

Nobody says you have to ZOOM.
Crop the START of the video to your desired size, duplicate that crop at the END of the video, and key-frame your panning in between, I don't know how to explain it any simpler. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

PD14 causes the pan to zoom.

Maybe I'm not explaining this very well.

I do not want the pan through the entire video.... only the center portion of it.

I want part of the crop to remain stationary. Then the crop to pan across the scene. Then stop and remain stationary.

I don't have a "Crop Video" option. Tutorial must be for a different version.

PD14 FORCES a zoom during the crop.

Why not crop the entire clip the way you want it, then produce it, then import it to the timeline and pan however you want? Regards,

OK, let me try to explain what I'm doing.

I work alone, and do not have an Audio Controlled Camera Mount (read, assistant to pan the camera for me while shooting).

So I want to shoot a scene using a wide-angle lens. The scene will include both where I will start out at, as well as where I will end up at.

Then, in post, crop and pan the video.

I want the crop to remain stationary for a certain time, then the crop to pan across the scene (the portion where I am walking across the scene), and then stop panning. Then the crop will remain in place.

No matter what I do with PD14, I am forced to zoom. I can only crop straight into the scene. I cannot pan the crop across it. If I do, the crop will change size and effectively zoom as well.
