Bought Photodirector 7 Ultra yesterday an started using it today.

In Photo import I would like to choose 'Keep in current location'.

Unfortunately I cannot put a checkmark next to that option...

I cannot figure out how to do this. Am I missing something?

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Kind regards,

Willem.

Willem, Are you saying you don;t have this option available? What do you show? Image please. Do you have the program installed on your primary drive (usually "c"). Where are your images stored? Are you trying to save them back to a camcera or camcorder? Is that attached the whole time?

Thanks for your reaction, stevek.

I think I know what the problem was.

My images were stored on a USB stick, so I
imported them from the USB stick.
I made a project, clicked 'Import' and selected some images
I had stored on the USB-stick.
I wanted to keep the images on the stick (the original source) so I thought
I must check 'Keep in current location'
In the Photo Import window that showed up 'Make extra copy in' was
checked, so I tried to change that to 'Keep in current location'
That was not possible...
I then copied the images to my primary C: drive, and imported from there.
This time I could check 'Keep in current location'

Th program allows to import from removable devices, but when you do so
it is not possible to check 'Keep in current location'.
Not sure what the option does.... Well it's all new to me. I'm learning.

Hello WayPay,

Welcome to the PhotoDirector forum "laughing"

The options available depend entirely on what import method/source you select.

You can import photos from a USB connected drive & "Keep in current location" will be available, if you've chosen Import > Photos or Folder.

The photos in the screenshot below were imported in the same way & kept on the USD drive (E

""

Be aware that if you then disconnect the USB drive, PhD will report the photos as missing!

If you import photos from an SD card, the option to "Keep in current location" will be greyed out. It's best to transfer them to your hard drive in any case.

Hi PIX,

I did exactly as you described: Import > Photos

(I tried it once again for the record.)

Selected from my USB drive (see att. 1 & 2)

In the program I cannot choose 'Keep in current location' (att. 3)

The USB drive is FAT 32, could that be the problem?

Of course it's not a huge problem and when I transfer the images to my hard drive everything

works as expected, but the USB drive issue surprised me.

Hello Willem,

I thought you may have just resolved your own mystery, but no...

I just formatted a USB stick to FAT32, added a folder of images & attempted to import into PhD. Just as you had found, "Keep in current location" was greyed out.

Inserting a different USB device, still FAT32, I was able to check "Keep in current location". So, it appears not to be the file system causing the issue.

Here, I can import from any of my USB connected external drives ranging from 16GB to 3TB and the "Keep in current location" option is available. The USB stick that replicated your issue is only 250MB. I wouldn't think disc capacity would be a factor, but I've been wrong many times before!

I'll continue to investigate.

PIX, as you can see in 1.JPG I attached the USB drive is 60GB.
But..... there is only 3 GB free space left. Can it be PhD needs more space to keep things 'in the current location'?
