Modify a downloaded DVD menu template to add more item buttons to first Titles/Chapters Menu page

I have downloaded the "LightGreenRing" DVD menu template and want to modify the number of items on the Titles/Chapters Menu page.

Currently, there are six (6) video items on the first page and I want to change that number to 9. I tried modifying the template, but I can't add additional items to the first page. Items 7 and after appear on a second page.

If I have to create a new template to accomplish this, then how do I copy the background image and font information from the downloaded template?

Thank you,

That was a 2 thumbnail menu created in 2010. If you are using a later version of PD then see this tutorial on how to do it: http://www.cyberlink.com/learning/video/6/create-customized-disc-menus-with-menu-designer .

Okay, I'm making progress. I now have the nine thumbnail item buttons working on the first page.

But now I have an issue with my background music being truncated. The image background on the downloaded template is a motion video that has a runtime of 15 seconds and then repeats. But my background music has a runtime of 31 seconds.

So my music is being cut off at 15 seconds. I read another post that says I need to create a video background with a 31 second runtime so that the background music will play for 31 seconds.

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/47810.page#250067

The problem is I didn't create the original video background since it was a downloaded template (LightGreenRing). But I want to use the image background from the template.

Is there a way I can do one of the two following options:

  1. Access the video background so I can change its runtime?

  2. Just get a static image of the video background so I can create my own video background with the correct runtime?

Thanks,

Sailor Guy

Hi Sailor Guy -

That "LightGreenRing" menu template is a bit shonky - http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/detail/122414 - I downloaded & installed it, then went off to track down the background image.

Typically, the image would be stored in the "background" folder inside C:\Users\Public\CyberLink\Downloaded menus\menuxxx but there was no image!

I did, however, find it online in some (equally shonky) Spanish fanshare site... there are 2 versions attached. One is cropped to 16:9 and the other is stretched (like in the menu template). You may want to desaturate it as the "original" template has it.

To confirm my understanding that the background image should be stored in the "background" folder, I used that photo as a background for a new menu template - then uploaded to DZ - then downloaded. YES - the image is where it should be. This is it - http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/detail/124830854

Sorry - got a bit side-tracked there.

Cheers - Tony

Please ignore this post - not trying to distract from the thread topic - but the 1920x1080 image I used for that menu was less than 1MB. By the time it had been processed in Menu Designer it is 2.7MB.

Wonder what it does? surprised

It has been a while since I worked with the old menus in the DZ. I modified a lot of them for personal use to be able to work in PD12 and PD13 maybe a year and a half ago. I did not download that “LightGreenRing" menu but in 2010 the background image is located where you explored. It has the extension of tmp. Simply copy the Bac... file to a temp location and rename the extension to png and you should be able to open it in paint or other image editor or make say a 90 second video of it using PD14. The resolution was 960x540 at that time. 1920x1080 resolution images weren’t there until the latest PD9 patch in 2011.

I converted a lot of nonusable menus that were rated 4 and 5 stars by users created in the earlier versions of PD to work with the later versions of PD and to have full thumbnails.

The newly created LGR menu by Tony in the DZ looks great! laughing

tomasc and ynotfish,

Thank you both for your guidance and efforts!

ynotfish, I have now used the background JPG you tracked down (how the heck did you do that so quickly?!?) to create my own custom menu with the right runtime duration for my background music. It works perfectly! See the attached screenshot of the DVD menu.

Thanks again for the prompt support!
