Upgraded to PD14. PD 13 still on Computer
[Post New]
Hi

I upgraded to PowerDirector 14 yesterday. I noticed that PowerDirector 13 is still present on my computer and will run. Is 13 needed for the upgrade to work? I read previous topics similar to this and I definately upgraded and did not purchase a full version. I am concerned that If I uninstall PD 13 the necessary files for the upgrade will be deleted rendering PD 14 not working.

Please help me.

Dan

Hi, Aussie_Director!

Good to have another Aussie on board! I have PD14 Ultra and also have a much earlier version, still fully functional, also on my computer, namely PD8, both are "Ultra" builds. I don't believe PD14 actually needs PD13 to still be present on the computer in order for PD14 to function properly. I'm thinking here of people whose first experience of Power Director is via Version 14, be it the "Delux", right up to "Ultimate" build, and have not had any exposure to the previous versions of Power Director. The fact that PD13 still resides on your computer may or may not be of some use to you. I've read in other posts that some have had experiences of a clip playing okay in PD13 but not in PD14. There are features that suited you in PD13 that may or may not still be present in PD14. It's entirely your choice whether or not to keep PD13 as, perhaps, a "back-up" in case PD14 might fail for one or another reason.

The reason PD14 and PD13 are both on your computer is that since PD9, Power Director had not required the uninstallation of earlier versions, as each version was installed into its own specifically-labelled folder, whereas any version prior to PD9 did require uninstallation of the older version. I know that from where I started with PD5, when I got hold of PD7, had to uninstall PD8, then when I got PD8, likewise required uninstalling PD7, but when I got PD14, it happily installed without asking me to remove the older version, which I still use from time to time for various purposes. Hope this answersyour question.

Cheers!

Neil.

If you bought a full version and not an upgrade, both versions of Powerdirector can exist on your computer.

Upgrade version usually removes the previous version. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

When I upgraded from PD12 to PD14, it removed PD12, which I wasn't aware of and didn't want to happen.

I then got a refund on the upgrade, bought the full version of PD14, then reinstalled PD12, so I could have access to both.

Not sure why your PD13 wasn't uninstalled when you upgraded, but no reason to remove it unless you need the space.

Thanks for your replies.

CARL312. Definately was the PD 11-13 upgrade to PD 14 ultimate. I have seen similar responses in other threads and frankly it makes no sense to me either. But that is what I pruchased.

Neil.F.1955 It seems as though there are two of us on here lol.

I am only looking at uninstalling as it doesnt make sense to me to keep both. Why would I every use 13 again? Unless I cant edit some of my current PD 13 projects in 14.

Tech support tell me that it wont affect PD 14 if I remove 13.

Now I am nervous to remove it lol. Thanks heaps for the help. I will definately be back on here in the future.

Uninstall will be ok, the residual data left of PDR13 will be "called up" and appear in PDR14. This only happens if the data is retained in "My Documents" or in "Roaming".
Profile templates will not be transferred automatically.
Roaming = C:\Users\PCName\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector
Other =C:\Users\PCName\Documents\CyberLink\Custom Menus
My Documents = C:\Users\PCName\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector
I have PDR9 to 14 retained in My Documents.

Hi, Aussie_Director!

There are a fewmore Aussies on this site than just us two, Ynotfish, is also Australian, as is Cubbyhousefilms(based in Melbourne, haven't heard from him for a while, though) and there are others, I'm sure.

As to Power Director 13, there'll be no dramas if you choose to uninstall, PD14 will function fully on its own as all the necessary elements(bits & bobs) are contained on the installation disc(there are two of them) or in the downloaded delivery of the programme. There are some who have Power Director 9 through to 14 on their computer, they find having multiple versions suits their needs. For me, having PD14 and PD8 together suits my purposes. Others have just the one version, whichever one it might be. So it's really your call whether to keep or delete PD13. If you have the installation pckage for PD13 you could always reinstall it later if you wanted to.

Cheers!

Neil.
