Powerdirector 14 freezes and crashes frequently but at random times (runs great rest of the time)
[Post New]
Hello. I am a YouTuber and have been using Powerdirector 12 for the past 4 years on a low end computer without any issues (I love it). I recently (about two weeks ago) purchased a brand new much-higher spec computer and installed Powerdirector 14 onto it.

Powerdirector 14 runs smoothly but then all of the sudden it will freeze up and stop responding. It does this at completly random times. Sometimes when rendering, sometimes when importing, sometimes when editing a title, etc. Basically it does not seem to be triggered by any specific task. Like I said it just goes from smooth and fast to froze.

The computer itself is not frozen only the program. I check the task manager and the resources are not anymore than 50% so I don't think it has to do with the computers capabiliy. Like I said I have been using PD on a vey low end device for a long time and have had no issues like this ever.

I attached the DxDiag.txt if that would be helpful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I save very often but it is still making it very difficult to get work done since it freezes often.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Drew,
Running through your diagnostic:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 520
Dedicated Memory: 128 MB
Driver Date/Size: 7/17/2015 12:00:00 AM, 37011384 bytes

Windows Error Reporting: Lots of reports

I've highlighted areas that might show a problem (causes me concern) when carrying out editing, CPU spec, Ram, GPU/ram, GPU driver. I see you have major error issues being reported. Please ask a local tech to assess your computer so the errors get addressed.

To start with, I'd go for a re-install of PowerDirector 14 and make sure nothing is running in the back ground when you do that. Next I would update the GPU driver to the latest, yours is currently dated July 17th 2015. These two actions might clear up the situation. I don't like these GPU with shared ram.
You haven't mentioned what you're editing/media content, as that plays an important part in what happens with the editor. A screenshot of your Edit workspace would definitely help here.

I'm just guessing and throwing out possibles.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. We will try the things you recomended later in the day after we come home.

As for what we edit, it is usually 1080p MP4's 30fps. The length of the footage in the timeline seems to have no effect on the freezing since we have done short 2 minute videos and long nearly 40 minute videos.

Again thanks for the help, and we will get back with you shortly. Drew08

Hi Drew

Another thing to check is in your Windows updates list, if there's one about mid May for Adobe Flash Player that has been installed, try uninstalling it and restarting your PC. I found this was my issue with suddenly having freezes and "go slows" in PD14 a week or so ago - rest of my computer was fine.

Good luck. Marty (In the Barrel).
