DVD playback with PowerDVD 16 on my computer and projector is jerky. The visual have a subtle jump or jerk effect. It may be somewhat rhythmic, rather than erratic. Blu-ray including 3D is normal.

What might be causes and possible solutions?

Hi DaveF,

To sort out any possible or unknown compatibility problems, you may check if the VGA driver or BD/DVD drive firmware is up-to-date from hardware vendors' support page.

Beside of that, for the problem under certain platform, I recommend you to directly contact the customer support:

I just "upgraded" to PowerDVD 16 over the weekend and am seeing this issue, among others. The jerkiness playback for me stopped when I disabled hardware acceleration, let PowerDVD do PCM encoding and enabled WASAPI exclusive mode. With any of those options enabled I saw micro stutter in DVD and Blu ray.

Oh yeah, PDVD16 also randomly crashes loading 3D blu rays for me, so its currently unusable on my rig (Zotac EN970).

HW decode cannot enable good? -> Update VGA driver.

System video driver is updated. Issue does not occur on PowerDVD 14 or 15 on the same PC...only 16.

The PC is brand new and updated. Though I've not checked the BD firmware. I'll do that this weekend.

And I'll contact Tech Support if that's not the issue.

I'll take a look at that too. Thanks.

There's no firmware update for my Blu-ray drive.

PowerDVD behaves the same with both a DVD disc played from the drive and from a DVD ISO copied from the same disc. The video is plays too slow for a moment, and then plays too fast as if catching up, then normal for a bit, and then repeats the behavior.

Once a system problem is ruled out, often the cause is the DVD or the Bluray itself. 24 FPS isn't a good frame rate. You need to do *frame interpolation* to really fix this on that sort of content. Cyberlink does it with true theatre motion

Some like the jerkiness cos they reckon its a film effect

I've tried two or three DVDs and its systemic.

Is there a feature within PowerDVD I need to enable for DVD playback?

Errr yes...I said "Cyberlink does it with true theatre motion". That gives you frame interpolation

You need to grasp what is jerky playback by design in 24 fps content versus what is just simply poor performance and not doing the video fast enough

I was having the same issues. Finally found some settings that fixed the stuttering video. I set the audio and video enhancements to 0%. I then turned off hardware acceleration and unchecked WASAPI mode. I now can play ripped movies as well as discs with the HD audio working properly. Hope this helps other people out. Ridiculous it worked perfect in 14 and 15, then Cyberlink screwed up smooth playback in 16 and haven't fixed it yet.

****UPDATE** I just checked a few ripped blu-rays and on some I have to enable hardware acceleration and on others I need to disable it. It's ridiculous that the video plays just fine when the PowerDVD controls are on the screen, but the second they disappear the picture starts stuttering like crazy. Cyberlink needs to fix this issue ASAP. It's exclusive to 16, as I haven't had any issues like this from PowerDVD 12-15 using the same computer whether it was Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10. It's a PowerDVD 16 issue period!!!

I've reinstalled PowerDVD and upgraded to current intel graphics drivers. I've also changed temporarily from the a Sony HD projector to an ASUS HD monitor. The DVD playback is now normal.

I should have tried it on the new monitor before making any software changes, to verify if it was the Projector or the Software. But I forgot that step.

If it resumes when I'm connected to the Projector, I'll play with the TrueTheater settings. (At a quick look, that seems to make DVD's look worse, not better, so I'm hoping those aren't necessary.)

I think it's all related to the way they changed the TrueTheater Enhancements. It used to be a checkmark box to disable or enable them. Now, it's a dropdown box to go from 0 to 100%. However, I think they are still "enabled" on the backend of the software instead of completely being disabled. I don't want to use them and keep them OFF at all times. However, while playing the Revenant BluRay, PowerDVD kept telling me that newer discs cannot use these enhancements (even though they were set to 0%). I never had any of this stuttering/jerky playback in any other version of PowerDVD when I could simply uncheck the Enhancements box to disable them. I have had to set it back to 25% on video to get some movies to play stutter free. When set to 0%, the video stutters like crazy. It shouldn't be that way. On top of that, the stuttering ONLY happens when the controls on the bottom of the screen disappear. The video plays fine while the controls are up. I have removed PowerDVD 16 and re-installed it and the problem returns once re-installed. I have tried this process three times to make sure.

I'm on the latest ATI drivers for my video card. I'm using a JVC DLA-RS45 projector running at 1080P/24.

I'm having the same issue here; frame rate of DVD playback seems to be quite inconsistent. It seemed to improve a bit by disabling all the TrueTheater features and it seems the TV mode is a bit better than PC mode. Bluray playback actually seems clearly better. Still, the output is not satisfactory, not nearly as consistent as in XBMC/Kodi which I hoped PowerDVD to be able to replace. The hardware is rather low-end ( Athlon X2 / 2.6GHz with HD6450), but since playback in Kodi is really smooth and DVD playback should be a piece of cake even for this machine, this is unexpected. Oh well, I guess I have to see how well the 30-day money back guarantee works now as I purchased PowerDVD 16 last weekend.

Just tried watching Batman v Superman Bluray and noticed the same as marchewd. If video enhancements are set to 0, video is jerky and lots of decoding errors are shown, image gets severely distorted. But if OSD is active, video is OK. Applying 25% enhancements gets rid of the severe distortions but there are occasional frame skips. I suppose hardware decoding is working incorrectly and software decoding is used if enhancements are applied.

I upgraded to windows 10 and the Cyberlink compatibility advisor suggested that I upgrade from Power DVD 12 to Power DVD 16 Ultra. I did that and with 16 playback briefly pauses and gets blurry at about one second intervals. With Powder DVD 12 the dame DVD plays smoothly as it should, but the control buttons don't work. The fact that the video plays OK with 12 indicates that all of the hardware and drivers are fine. I tried disabling hardware acceleration in 16, but that did not help the jerky playback. Hs anyone found a solution to this issue. I feel robbed!
