How can I cause the Audio Settings of the PowerDirector 14 Recorder to persist
[Post New]
How can I cause the Audio Settings of the PowerDirector 14 Recorder to persist from session to session. I find that I have to set the settings each time that I start a new recording session. For example, the value shown for the Audio Settings is: "Stereo Mix (IDT .." but I want it to be "Rear Mic (IDT - High Def.". Thanks for any help.Jim Murchison Jim Himself

Hello, Jim!

While PD14 is open, look around top-left of the screen for a "cogwheel", clicking on this opens User Preferences. You may find the setting you're after in there.

Cheers!

Neil.

Hi Jim -

As far as I know, you can't. Here, with each new Screen Recorder session it reverts back to the default.

Cheers - Tony

I only just upgraded to PD14 yesterday after seeing that it had a screen grabber. Haven't had a chance to play with it properly yet but my first attempts recorded the 4K screen with a TV programme playing perfectly but with no audio at all. I changed the Windows default audio settings for recording (in my case to "What you hear") and that appears to have worked. So it might be a solution for you as well i.e. changing the system audio settings rather than just in the app.

Hello, JimMurch!

Ah, I see, it was the screen recorder you wanted to set for some degree of permanency, as Ynotfish says, that's not possible! For myself I'm not all that impressed with it. In its current state it's a facility that could be done without. I've tried it a few times and am not pleased with the jerky hit-and-miss results. In hit-and-miss I mean it misses several consecutive frames as it records, resulting in the jerky, jumpy final capture. This is one that should be taken "back to the drawing-board"!

Cheers!

Neil.

Thanks to all of you for your prompt responses. I have given up on this idea and just decided that it will not work. Thanks any way. Jim Himself

The system audio settings works perfectly for me but that's with no mic attached so I don't know if that would make a difference.

My minor gripe is that the mouse pointer is recorded no matter whether it's visible on screen or not e.g. watching TV in my browser full screen after a few seconds tha pointer disappears. It is still recorded by 'Screen Recorder" even though it's not visible on screen. It doesn't make a difference whether the option to record an .mrk file is selected or not and I would have thought that de-selecting that option should prevent the pointer from being included in the 'grab'. If you aren't recording clicks why record the mouse pointer?

Nevertheless, in general I think that it works very well as an initial release that might perhaps be improved over time.

Try moving that mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen to hide it before recording using the hotkeys.

Yes sure, goes without saying but I do think the way the option to record the .mrk file works is counter-intuitive and other screen recording software I've used over the years has always included the option not to record the mouse pointer. It's not a difficult thing to implement I'm sure.

Agreed Longedge - that's a pretty basic "miss". Recording the cursor should be an option.
