Does the new version of PowerDVD v16 support/play 4K Ultra HD blu-ray movies (UHD 4K - UHD Premium disc)?

No, it definitely doesn't.
It also seems there aren't any readers available, too. (Some drives can 'see' the contents of a UHD-BD, but it's unclear wether they could actually play it, due to lack of supporting the new copy protection.)

Maybe Hicham can comment on if a mark II or 16.5 version is planned to support such discs.

I definitely want to know the answer to this question.

Until PowerDVD supports UHD this is a NO BUY from me.

Let's be honest here, the upgrades in the last few years were minimal at best.

Just to be clear:

PowerDVD 15/16 does support UHD/4k content in MKVs, but no UHD-BDs.

But why does that matter if there aren't any drives/readers to use it anyways? Any software capable of playing UHD-BDs would currently be useless. Of course this should change in future.

As stated above there already are drives that can read the information on UHD disks. It's more of a question of firmware and software at this point. Since CyberLink is one of the very few if not the only company still selling software Blu-Ray players, it's pretty much in their hands to drive for it.

Note Cyberlink has been a member of the Ultra-HD Blu Ray Development Group since October of 2015.

And that's the question, will a simple soft/firm-ware update autenticate these drives that can see the files of a UHD Blu-ray, with AACS 2.0 ???

And that's the problem, there are no drives with AACS 2.0 authentication yet.

Where did this Cyberlink representative confirm that the software will support 4K Blu-ray; in a support ticket answer ?

A review on cnet ??? Who ever reviewed that, I think jumped the gun or the Cyberlink rep sure did.

Post a link to that review, my support ticket is still open, so I will confront Cyberlink with it.

I asked them too and I didn't get any answer like that _ the just said "we're wrking on it"... more or less...

That's about to change with Pascal and Polaris.

The 980ti doesn't natively support HEVC/H.265 decoding.

You're also going to run into problems when it come UHD Blu-rays and HDCP 2.2.
The only NVIDIA cards that support that are 950/960.
They have the GM206 GPU in them.

You GTX 980ti will work OK with unprotected 4K content, but not protected.

This sucks. Why does owning a PC and hooking it up to a TV make me feel like I'm doing something wrong?

Just because most people don't have the hardware for it doesn't mean no one has the hardware for it. I have a GTX960 and want to play UHD blu ray disks on my 4K TV.

It's not just UHD blu ray support. You can't stream 4K content from netflix or amazon on a PC. It's just ridiculous. It's has to be about DRM. So for regular people you are forced to use all these disconnected sources for content just to ensure DRM is maintained.

The xbox one s might, just might be the answer to all this.

I think that it boils down to all of us being a bit more patient and waiting for every piece of hardware to catch up with one another.

At this point there is only the Samsung UHD player that plays back the UHD d-BD discs. Towards the end of the year though, both LG and Sony (I believe is the 2nd comp.) will be releasing their UHD-BD players with all the bells and whistles too.

SO once that happens, I think that we will see the Right Optical Drives come out. SO as of right now, we have the TV's, The GFX Cards, the HDMI 2.0 HDCP 2.2 cables and UHD Software... We're only waiting on the Optical drives which I'm guessing should be coming out around the same time as these other two UHD (LG and Sony) players.
