Can't Record in Wars of Napoleon

I've got Power Director 14 and find that I can't record inside the Wars of Napoleon game by AGEOD Games and distributed by Matrix Games. Unfortunately Wars of Napoleon uses the F9-F12 keys so there's no way to start the recording inside of the program because of the game's use of the hotkeys used by Power Director 14.

I have a new super fast and powerful computer with 32 GB of RAM, the latest i7-6700 chip running at 4 MHz, a Ge Force GTX 980 4GB video card and a Samsung 4K monitor.

I tried starting the recording outside of the program but Windows ends the recording as soon as the program starts loading. I'm running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode with the run as administrator function turned on. It's an older game system that unfortunately hasn't been updated to run on Windows 10 smoothly.

Is there any way to use other keys for the Cyberlink Video Recorder as hotkeys? Are there any settings inside of Power Director 14 that might help get my recorder to work inside of the game? Are there any setting in the game's exe profile I can switch to get the recorder to work inside of the game?

If you are using the Powerdirector 14 Screen recorder, you can click on Settings (on bottom of start up window) and change the hot keys used in PD 14 Screen recorder.

I do not know if PD 14 screen recorder will record Game play. It has failed for me in some conditions. I seem to remember it closing when I started another program.

You may have to try other screen recorders. There are several available. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Carl312,

Thanks for the info on changing hotkeys but I did mention that Wars of Napoleon uses all the hotkeys listed for PD14. In fact the game uses all the Function keys. Have you checked to see the very limited number of choices there are for hotkeys? Only F9-F12. No other keys like End or Home that might be a useful alternative. I hope they add some other hotkeys as the ones listed aren't enough.

I did manage to get recorder to work inside WoN. While I can't start recording before entering the program I found that after it brings up the initial small startup screen I could turn on the recorder before then entering the main program. I do have to trim excess from the beginning and ending of recording clips inside of PD14 but that's easy.

I used PD 14's recorder in Cities Skylines and Cities XXL, neither game uses the function keys. The recorder does make nice 4K recordings which I want since I have a 4K monitor. I want to use an integrated set of software, not get some recorder from another vendor and have to worry about compatibility issues.

Omnius Prime,

My rule is use what works.

In computers there is only so many Key combinations. Programs tend to use the same keys for the same type of functions.

All I can suggest, is pick a start/stop key combination that is different in the two programs.

Powerdirector Screen Recorder only uses two Keys One for Start and Stop and one For pause. You can choose F9 through F12 for start and Stop, surely your Game would not use at least one of those keys.
