Every time i try and make a Bluray or HVCHD disk the software crashes? I am running Vista 64bit.

I got it to run doing a 3 min video and it took about 30min to make a BR disk with out any FX or editing. This is nuts i just made a 3.0 quad core 8gig ram PC for editing HD videos and this is just insane! Why would they encode the video again if the files are bluray already?

I think it need's to re-encode it to wrap it in one video stream. you have no option on this, in terms of it taking this long to export the disc. I would say it is normal for it to take a long time to render and burn a BR disc. Even on a Quad Core machine. I must admit you have a very high spec machine and i would have thought it would be a bit quicker for a 3 min video. Anyone know any estimate times for exporting BR? Producing a 1:40 AVCDH file took almost 10 minutes using my Core2Duo E7200 (2.5 GHz). I've heard of others requiring several hours using a quad core setup for high definition. It's just the way it is at this moment. Q9300 2.5 GHz
4 GB Ram
Nvidia 9800 GT

In vegas/dvd architect it does not encode the video, AVCHD is what format bluray movies are in. All my video files are .m2ts witch is the right format. I do not get way cyberlink needs to degrade the video And take about 5 hrs longer then is needed. All director should be doing is making Bluray structure and that's it. We need someone to explain what it going on in that 30min for a 3 min video.

The Blu-ray specification allows for AVC, VC1 and Mpeg2 formats. PD used 1080i mpeg2 for it's BR discs so AVCHD has to be re-encoded.

My files from sony cam are in MPEG2 1080i. When i load them in vegas it said they were MPEG2 1080i. So do not think that is it. Also you can make mpeg2 or avchd with director. Its in the menu for disc.

You can make a Bluray disc (uses mpeg2) or an AVCHD disc on DVD media (hybrid disc). These hybrid discs are playable on some BR players but is not a Blu-Ray disc.

If i select bluray disk it has a drop down menu for mpeg2 or AVCHD, if i select mpeg2 i get about 1hr 45min if i select AVCHD i get about 2hr 45min.

Also i got it to make a short bluray movie and it did not have one big video file it just put my files in a folder. So i do not see way it took 6 hrs to make a 1h45min video with 15 videos on it. It should not have to render any files.

Hi,
I did some testing to compare.
I used some mpeg2 & AVCHD clips rendered in both Vegas and PD.
I used the view>SVRT to determine if PD was happy not to render then burnt to folder using the disc module. I use processor utilisation in task manager to determine whether rendering is occurring.

When using the mpeg2 files > mpeg2 BD no rendering occurred. (as you should expect)
When using the AVCHD files > mpeg4 AVC BD rendering occurred even though the SVRT info indicated it shouldn't.
(Thanks for enlightening me to the Mpeg4 option in "format" - I believe I previously was choosing BDAV which does not have that option )

So it seems PD is not happy with even it's own AVCHD rendered files when burning a BD. I wonder if your .m2ts files have parameters (ie bit rate, reference frames) which are outside the BD specifications for PD and this is causing all the files to be rendered?

I dont know they are 15mb from a sony cam. And i still do not get why if when i make a BR movie disc and use mpeg2 files it took over 4 hrs to make it. after 3 hrs i went to bed and it was at 35%. I have a 2.8gig quad core 8 gig ram vista 64bit pc. and all 4 cored are at 100% the hole time it is making the video. But like you said no rendering was done to the files. And when i look at the disc all the files are just put in a folder it does not make one big one. But you are right about it not liking AVCHD file that PD makes when i select that for BR it crashes in 10-15 sec every time.
