Can I remove my old Power Director 13 from my computer after upgrading to Power Director 14? Or does PD14 still rely on PD13? Just trying to free up hard drive space. Thanks

If you bought a complete new version of PD14, you can keep both on your PC, which may come in useful if you ever have a problem with PD14 (I'm currently using PD12 to work around some issues on PD14).

If you bought the (less expensive) upgrade, PD13 will be deleted from your computer as part of the upgrade process. Regards,
Dan

I uninstalled my PD13 after "upgrading".

I don't recommend uninstalling the PD13 Content Packs yet.

I have a couple contect packs related to PD13 and other content packs. I believe the "other" were installed with PD14 and I got doubles of a lot of things.

So, I recommend creating a restore point. Then uninstall anything else PD13 related.

If you find something is missing, you can restore.

jcardana,

Do you mean that when you bought the less expensive upgrade version, it didn't uninstall PD13 as part of the process? That you elected to do that? I ask because my PD12 was gone after I upgraded...I didn't have the option of keeping it. (Which was very irritating, because I couldn't activate PD14 since I didn't have internet access at the cabin, so I ended up with nothing.)

I bought 12 at 60% off because 13 was coming out. After 6mo or so, I got 13 and then 14. I don't actually remember if they were "upgrades" or just discounted. Each installed separately and I thought they would install on top of each other.

Hi, Jcardana!

Having PD12, 13 and 14 sitting side-by-side on your computer can be very useful indeed. You only need to read some other posts in other threads to see how useful they can be. There has been quite a lot of discussion here of late about inefficiencies in PD14, Richmond Dan has already stated in this thread that he currently uses PD12 to work around some issues on PD14. And if you have PD13 as well, you have that extra avenue to work around any problems that pop up un PD14. I have PD14, and also have retained PD8, for reasons I've often explained, the two versions together on my computer have proved VERY useful in that PD8 covers for some design hiccups in PD14.

Cheers!

Neil.

Well so far I've been lucky and I haven't needed "to go back". My main projects are sermons on DVD/CD and online. I still have my original files (I don't get rid of anything) so if my projects expand and I need a feature or capability of 12 or 13, I still have them. Would you be willing to PM me and expalin how you go back and forth? Or better yet, start a new thread? CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Hi, Jcardana!

That's pretty close to what I meant. Hanging on to earlier versions of PD will prove handy at times.

Hi, jcardana!

I've just this moment sent you a PM, headed "Thoughts On PD8 & PD14" Fairly-well explainging why I retained PD8 on my computer when I was able to do so(installing PD8 required uninstalling PD7 before it, but PD14 made no demand to remove PD8 ). Because these later versions can cohabitate on one computer, having the earlier version handy to compensate for shortcomings in the newer version has proved itself more worthwhile that removing the older version. Though PD8 is no longer commercially available(and hasn't been for a number of years), it has features that should be brought back in PD15 or, if not PD15, then PD16 when they start to plan that version. Crucial in the planning should be the removal of the internet requirement to activate. It's that which got someone else all "hot and bothered"..... remember.....? Hmmmm. Don't want that again, do we? The CD-Key alone should be the final requirement to trigger activation and have Power Director "up and running" once installed, as it was from the first PD up to PD8.

Cheers!

Neil.
