Here's what I've been doing...

Keep in mind, this is just an example. I haven't had to do a long scripture yet this year.

Usually, I start the scroll when the speaker gets to the middle of the stationary scripture.

Thanks. That's a speedy reaction! Two questions: How do you set the speed for the scroll up?
Is it possible to scroll left to right, Lower Third to correspond with the speech?

Change the length of the Title clip in the timeline. It will adjust automatically.

Place the Default Title in the timeline and click modify. Select the Effect tab. The various "methods" are listed in the Starting and Ending effect CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Thanks for the advise and patience so far. I have implemented your advice.
I am still encountering problems:
1) Titles (Text) that is supposed to scroll to the left, refuse to scroll at all, despite my having set the correct length;
2) Titels (Text) that scroll up: Even after I set the font and size and instructions to align left, the text don't budge and align right. It refuses also to align centre. When attempting quite a number of times, the font and size has changed and I have to reset it. What do I do wrong?

Can you "package" your project and attach it here? If it's more than 20MB, Save As a new project name and remove the video/images outside the Text Scroll section. Then package it.

File -> Pack Project Materials
(It's listed in the top section, under Save Project As)

Check out this pds file. It contains 4 text clips.

Even after I set the font and size and instructions to align left, the text don't budge and align right. It refuses also to align centre. When attempting quite a number of times, the font and size has changed and I have to reset it. What do I do wrong?
When you're in the Title designer, under the Preview window Theres an icon with alignment options for the entire text box.If you change the size of the box manually, it will change the size of the text to fit. So, don't do that.

When you enter text, the text box will resize to fit the text. Cyberlink messed up something and as you type, the preview window no longer scrolls so you can see what your typing. If you need Text to align left and right, add spaces to the first line. This will expand the box.

Don't use the Quick Reply box, click PostReply.

Near the bottom there are two blue tabs. Click attachments. You can then drag&drop a file or click Browse. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Thanks for your patience and help so far!

1) Could part of the problem with the text scroll be that it is too long? It is approximately 20 minutes. I have managed to load the text, but it slows down PD considerably. I also have great difficulty in editing the text. I enclude at the bottom my computor info. It would be a shame if this option is not possible.

2) I am including a section of the same text that I inserted as many separate text pages. I have also inserted a fade transition between the text pages. This option seems to work better. I have, however, another problem: I can view the text page in the text edit mode, but once I return to my timeline, it does not display on the preview. What could be the cause of it?

I am really curious and willing to learn!

I'm looking at your pds file. The checkbox on the Text Track is unchecked. That means PD will ignore that track.

Are you expecting the text to scroll? There are no effects assigned to the text boxes. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

No problemo

Quote: 1) Could part of the problem with the text scroll be that it is too long? It is approximately 20 minutes.
If you have one clip of text that's 20 minutes... yes that's too long. It seems to me when PD is playing and it gets to a text clip, it will pause to load the text and settings. If the text clip is 20 min long, that's a lot of stuff to load.

Quote: I can view the text page in the text edit mode, but once I return to my timeline, it does not display on the preview.
To repeat the last post, it's because the checkbox on the timeline is unchecked

Something else I'm thinking of... maybe you should be using SubTitles. I've never used them so maybe someone else can chime in? Right-click on the timeline and select Show Subtitle Track. From there, I can't help much.

Thank you, jcarnana,
I was off line for some time, but could answer today.
I am looking at all your suggestions and am testing it in my project. I think I might just cope. Thanks so much!
I have scrutinized the Users' guide and found it quite helpful on the subject of subtitles.
It mentions SRT files, and MKV files. I cannot find a definition of those files. Please explain.
(I have been a professional film editor for approx 15 years way back in the 70's to 90's and since then has done sound editing (Audacity)on sermons. I have only recently started the learning curve on PD. So, I lack much knowledge of digital editing.

You're welcome.

I've been there... so much "stuff" packed into one screen, it gets overwhelming.

Take a breath, slow down and look at everything displayed.

Don't be afraid to tinker. You won't break anything unless you start deleting things you shouldn't.
