FPS Question and initial impressions of PD14

As previously noted, I was using GoPro Studio for editing.

I purchased the PD14, Ultra a few days ago and really like it. Intuitive to use, good UI, and it has not crashed on me yet.

My plan is to import both Gopro, .mp4 and Nikon .mov video for editing. Hopefully both formats together, in the same project.

I imported some mp4 vid which was shot at 48 fps. I therefore set PD14 to 50 fps. The attached doc shows my screen shots for both of these.I then sent it off to production, at the high value AVI output. The final version was a bit grainy, and just poor quality in general – not impressive.

Would the 2 fps cause this? I cant see how it would.

Any other glaring errors on my part?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Look at the properties of your produced AVI. Not HD, correct?
You should export/produce in most any other format than AVI.
What is the final destination to show your videos?
For online (Youtube, Vimeo) WMV or MP4 are good choices.
For DVD, MPEG,
For USB probably AVC or MPEG (see tv player specs). HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Barry,
I was just messing around, and deleted the final vid, but I see your point. I am still learning the tech aspects.

In the past, I would create a low res for youtube and archive quality for my pc when i was using gopro studio.

I don't have my go pro with me, but I believe it will only record at 48 fps, but i need to verify.

The new Nikon camera I have can do 1080/30 p or 1080/60 i. Not sure what that i means. Does it make sense to set the Nikon at 1080/60 i, to match up with the Gopro 48 fps? Is a delta of 12 fps significant?

Your Go Pro will most likely record higher than 48fps but it will depend on which model you have.

Go through the settings on the camera and you will find a list of the fps options.

I know the HERO4 can capture at 30 and 60fps and I think - even 120 - not sure about 240 fps. The 120 and/or the 240 fps I think - if I remember right is at 720p - at least the Hero4 Silver that I have.

The 60 fps shot at 1080p.

CS and Alpine, thanks for the gopro comments. My gopro is at another location, so I will take a look at the fps settings when i grab it next week.

Barry,

Unfortunately work has been getting in the way of my vid editing. I need to retire.

But, I did do another output to a lower res format a few days ago as you suggested, and the vid quality was still very poor. Grainy, and just bad in general. It is probably me. I will try it again this weekend, and see if i can get a better result. I will write down the output parameters and some details so i can post.
