I knoiw that I'll get an argument on this but you can burn a little over 2 hours of BEST quality video to a double layer DVD. Any more will reduce the quality. How many hours are you trying to put on the DVD?

All DVD that can be played on a standard DVD player have a mpg2 format. Your mp4 file will be converted to mpg2 and will show on a DVD as a VOB file (along with other files and folders.

Your 8X spped may be a problem.

When you go to burn the project to a disc, select to burn an ISo file or folder set rasther than burn to the disc. That would eliminate any issues with the burning and encoding at the same time. If the ISO or folder set completes, then you can burn either to a disc using Power2GO or ISO Burn.

If it does not complete, then there is something in the mp4 file that the program doesn't like.;. Could the file be copy protected?

I have shifted over to use Nero for now (not as good but fine for what I need) However at some point i will need to use Powerdirector for Subtitles. To answer first Stevek:

The Video is about 1.5 hours long I also tried to burn as an ISO to save in my hard drive but had the same problem..... however, I have been having issues with my internet service dropping today and suspect that the software is requiring authentication via internet before i can use.... (This also occurred when using Nero but when I got internet back up it started working!)

I am currently burning using Nero but i have a few more videos i need to burn tonight so when this one os completed I will go back to Powerdirector and let you know.

Sorry for not providing all the info at this time but appreciate you guys jumping on this... if you have anything to add based on the info i have provided, any insight will be welcome; that pending, I will update when back on Powerdirector.

95% chance that if you can't make the ISO then the original file has something in it that PowerDirector doesn;t like !-- the other 5% would be a bad install. .

This is a little off-topic, I know, but PLEASE, will people stop trying to decimalise time! Time does NOT conform to decimal fractions! 1.5 hours, should read 1 hour, 30 minutes as per the equasion: 60 seconds = 1 minute; 60 minutes = 1 hour; 24 hours = 1 day, and so on. Sorry to be pedantic but this habit of attempting to decimalise time really is ANNOYING!

Getting back to topic, and Steve, yeah, I've often pointed out why I've retained PD8 on my computer, the disc authoring versatility in PD8 needs to be replicated in PD15, i.e., the ability to burn(author) a DVD in the DVD-SP grade, picture quality won't be BEST, but will still be of good-enough quality and allow up to 2 hours, 25 minutes of content on a standard 4.7Gb (DVD-5) disc. PD14 will only allow DVD-SP if the aspect ratio is 4:3, for 16:9 you're stuck with either DVD-HQ or "Smart-Burn". Really, that's not a good option. Home-burned Dual-Layer discs won't play on many domestic DVD players, as my own experience has shown me.

There is a proper way to write Time in a sentence, for instance, an hour-an-a-half - thus 1:30.00 being simply quoted as 1 hour, 30 minutes, zero seconds, note the colon between the hour and minutes. I'll say no more on this.

Based on the information supplied the pc is doing nothing. Try this: Go to preferences/Hardware Acceleration and uncheck both checkboxes and hit okay. In the create disc/Burn in 2D/ uncheck hardware encoding. That would eliminate the gpu as a source for the problems here.

Let us know if the authoring can starts now.
