Hi, I've been using PD13 for about a year now and I love it.

I'm creating basically an instructional video and have footage of the entire procedure being performed. I've cut this down to multiple small clips but the entire video is still too long. Hence I need to send this to the professional to let me know which steps we can cut out. I think the easiest way to do this would be to number every clip and produce a low-quality video to send out, then he can simply let me know which clip numbers are unnecessary.

Is there a way to add a number to every clip? Obviously I can select each clip individually and go to the title room but this would be quite tedious.

Let me know your thoughts please. Thanks

You really only have to create one title. You can copy and paste titles, then edit the number in Modify, Save.

It is an easy operation. There are not any automatic way to number videos on the timeline.

The only automatic process is Chapter markers (Chapter Room). Chapter numbers are automatically numbered if you choose chapter at each clip.

Chapter numbers are not kept when you produce the video, only in DVD or Bluray Creation are the chapters kept. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

You're right, you only need to create one title. However you must drag that title down to the timeline 43 times, then expand it to the width of the clip 43 times, then double-click it to change the number, 43 times. It wasn't terrible, but it did take me over 20 minutes. And after I've edited this version, I might have to do it again because the numbering will be off. Oy.

I could do the automatic chapter numbering, and it would be nice if I could then check a box somewhere to have the chapter number displayed on the video or as a caption or something.

Depending on if your clips are close to the same length, you can make that first title the full length of the first clip, (Select title), Press Ctrl+C (copy), keep preview in Clip mode, Click the next clip(that moves the cursor to the start of clip), Click title track, Press Ctrl+V (paste), click next clip, Click Title track, Press Ctrl+V. Do for all of your clips. After all of the titles have been pasted, you then edit the title for the correct clip number.

You can put Subtitles on the image. There are two types, Open shown all the time on the image and for Disk. Disk is the hidden Closed Captions. My opinion, Titles are easier. Subtitles take too much work.

Another way to handle that would be to simply put a continuous running timecode overlaid on the footage. The professional can then simply tell you what timecode ranges which can be deleted. Based on your original timeline content, timecode would lead you to exact desired clip.

PD13 as a Fx called timestamp that you can simply extend over the entire duration of your timeline to add a running timecode visible during playback on any player.
