Hi Good people !!!

In 09/2015 I purchased but have not yet installed Director Suite 3 (I thought I already instaalled, sheesh)
In 11/2015 I purchased the new Director Suite 4 (I'm finally able to get it installed)

Since I did not install the Director Suite 3 from Director 2 Suite,,, Can I install the Director Suite 4 and it's software with out installing Director 3 suite ?

This is due to personal issues, of an a broken back injury, and am now wanting to install THe latest Director 4

I do have all downloads associated with my purchases at the time of Director 3.
I am now Downloading Director Suite 4 and the other purchases at the time...
I find it sort of funny, but I bought the Extened download Service for both, lol, a year so I have plenty of time.
Normally I would have purchased the Backup CD's, I'll store these on another backup drive, all good

In past we needed the current / prior version installed for the upgrade to be installed which removes previous versions.
I believe that is how it worked, lol...

My thought is it would not be a problem, but I have not seen this answer in the forums as of yet...
I must be missing it, or most just install right away, so this concern has not been mentioned.

THank you for your assistance,, Win 8, i7 3770, GTX 660 2GB GDDR5, 3 SSD's, 2TB HHD

Whether you must install Director Suite 3 first or not depends on if you bought a Upgrade or the Full Version of Director Suite 4.

The Upgrade version requires the previous version to be installed on your computer.

The Full version is a standalone and does not require any prior version. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

You may have to install Director 3 because you bought a Upgrade Director 4.

You can attempt to install Director 4, I think the installer will tell you that Director 3 is needed. A small possibility, you may be able to just provide the CD Key from Director Suite 3 to continue the installation. Director Suite 4 will ask for its CD Key to Activate. HIya Carl312 ,,,

Well, Directors Suite 4 installed without asking for Ver. 3
I think because the upgrade is from any version, ver1 - ver3 ,,

I installed the 2_Content, went to do the 3-Premium Content, then looked at the desktop and I still have Icons for previous installs,,, And they are in the Programs Files(x86)
So I look in Control Panel, although it it doesn't show these installed they are, lol...
THey may be from my full purchase of Media Suite 10,,,

Also, I see I still have Version 1 of Directors Suite installed since 2012, lol,,,
I don't want to start up Any directors Suite programs until I make sure still having the Directors Suite 4 1 started installing is correct,,, so far anyway...

I have all my files backed up for all things Cyberlink, in case I need them,, including paid content, plugins, and such,,,

I do know I bought Media Suite 10 and Directors Suite 1 separately, full products,,, Redundant purchase of some things I found out, lol,,, Even a separate full Purchase of PowerDVD ,,,
Things were not clear with instructions of install and Purchase back then,,, It is a little better now. Surprisingly I'm wanting to question this upgrade,,,

I usually install without a hitch, and have had no issues when using them, Win 8 64 bit...
So I never really needed to post or send a support ticket...
But this has me a little stumped,,, looked last night and this morning for any info - errors during upgrade installs,,,
Found some lose the Packs, and New Blue content, as well as other issues,,,
I've never had that, hopefully this all makes sense,,,

I have not installed any thing for this upgrade other than the
1_Cuberlink_DirectorsSuite4 exe upgrade
and the
2_Cyberllink_PowerDirector14_Content_Essentials exe

So this install is yet incomplete as it is so far,,, I would almost say it added content to my original install of Directors Suite???

If pictures would help, let me know, lol,,,

Director Suite 4 also includes Cyberllink_PowerDirector14_Content_Premium exe

And any extra packs you may have gotten included with your purchase.

Your confirmation email would have links to all of the parts that you purchased.

Good that Director Suite 4 did not ask for Director Suite 3. It was not needed because you have another Full Cyberlink product installed. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

LOL,,, we cross posted,,,
Yes, I still have more to install,,,

My concern is that I still have the old icons that are to photo director and the others that came with DS1 installed after the DS4 installing of the first 2 files,,

They do not show in Control Panel, but the do show in their install folders,,,

By the way, these shouhld be 64 bit installs for Director Suite 4, shouldn't they be installed in the 64 bit location
C:\Program Files\ "
instead of the 32 bit folder "C:\Program Files(x86)\" ???
It chose the (x86) Folder by default,,,

I thought Directors Suite was now native 64 bit

Actually I should have said,,, the old Programs are still installed and do run on my computer,,
Icons on Desktop are active, lol,,,

I would need to uninstall them manually using WIndows Explorer,,,
TO me, they should haev been removed , replace, and the new install active.

Maybe these are the Media 10 Ultra package products,,

Ok,,,

ANd I just checked something that is a bit odd,,,

Control Panel shows only an install of 2.10GB for DS4 ,,,
But in Program Files\Cyberlink\ it is a 5.96GB folder

I checked locations for the new DS4 installs and they are all in the 64 bit "Program Files" folder, except for the Audio Director 6 which is in the 32 bit folder "Program Files(x86)" folder,,,

So I can make heads and tales out of this, is there a list of DS4 install locations, showing the installed paths,,,

Although I have plenty of OS Drive space, there is no sense in redunatnt programs,,, I do have 3 other drives internal and 1 external USB 3.0 ,,,

I always install Programs on the C Drive ,,, I do install libraries and other files that can be pathed from within the program, if it allows,,,

I think you are doing alright.

Many of cyberlinks Director Suite did install in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder. If you check the About for Powerdirector 14 (part of Director suite 4), you will see that it is a 64 bit program. Most of the programs in Director Suite are 32 bit programs. I guess it was easier for Cyberlink to write the installer to just install in the X86 folder instead of spliting the locations.

As far as the computer is concerned, it does not matter what folder the program is installed in, what matters is the coding of the Program.

If you want to free up space you can certainly remove the programs you do not need or want to use. There a many uninstall utilities that can search the registry for the programs and remove them.

By the way what shows in Current Registered Products are what has been registered with Cyberlink. Until you have registered director suite 4, it will not show there.

Hi, Rocker!

I've been watching the to-and-fro comments between yourself and Carl312. As one who has Power Director 8 Ultra and 14 Ultra(as stand-alone programmes) on my computer, I can tell you it's quite useful to have such an arrangement. I use PD14 for editing purposes and PD8 for DVD authoring, as well as occasionally for capture from VHS or other format video-camera tapes when required. Just going to show the older versions still have their uses. You have complete media suite packages installed, which means you can delve into an earlier suite and use an earlier version of, say Power Producer, Audio Director, Power Director, or any other programme within that suite to "touch up" some of your videos. As I said, it's useful to have such options available. If you go back to suites that included Power Director versions 5 to 8, for instance, installing the suite that included PD7 would require you to uninstall the suite the held PD6, but with these much later suites, or the stand-alone PD programmes, PD9 through to 14 or the suites that contain them, can live side-by-side with each other or one of the earlier suites. Just an observation I've made.

Cheers!

Neil.

Thank you Carl,, I so understand I need to register them in my account, lol,,,

I am a bit confused why they would send me the installs for things that seem to be installed with the Directors Suite 4 install,,,
I'm going to note all installs in my programs folders,,,
Compare and try to decipher what I should have,,,

So I'll be posting back eventually,,,

Neil ,, I do agree,,, That is why I purchased both Director and the Media Suites,,, It does what I need,
I may even upgrade the Media Suite once I figure out why some are showing program folders and not in Control Panel,,
Also for an upgrade install, I should not gain used Disk space like I am, lol,,,
The Disk space is what made me take a look,,, and something is off,,,

This is also my DAW computer,,, I do have lots of useful creative products, and do have experience in not only the use of them, but computer install and error solving,, Going into registry doesn't bother me at all, lol

See ya's soon, I'm have a feeling this may be some fun, lol

hi,

Still need some advice, lol,,,

I took some time to look through installed programs folder both for 64 and 32 bit installs.

Seems I do have some installs that seem redundant.
I do still have all the shortcuts to Director 2 still on my desktop, and their Target folders still have all the files to run them... But, they do not show in Programs and Files in Control Panel (Win ...

I also considered the fact I only installed the Director 4 exe.
Seems it installed everything ?
I thought I would need to install all of the exe downloads I received.
Should I install all of them ?
Or did the Director 4 installation install them completely, and they just need authorized ?

I do not want to lose any add-ons purchased previous versions,,, All projects are done, and future projects held off, until I know what's going on, lol,,
I do have all I have programs, I have ever paid for on a back up drive,,,

Should I bring load up all the Director 4 programs ?
Just to see what happens ? lol,, (roll of the dice)..

The place to look for all that is installed is in Control panel > Programs and Features (The Windows uninstall section). I do not know Windows 10 so, I do not know if Microsoft kept the same structure.

You should see in the list of programs available to uninstall, all of the parts of Director Suite 4.

Attached is a screenshot of my installed Cyberlink Programs. I have Director suite 3, Powerdirector 12 and Director Suite 4 Live, all installed on this computer. That is PD 12, PD 13, and PD 14 along with the contents for all those and a couple of extra packs.

Hi Carl312,

Yes, I know they "should" be in Control Panel.
I said Programs and Files, when I meant Programs and Features,,, sorry

The odd thing I mentioned above are some Director 2 Programs that should have been replaced with the upgrade, are not in Control panel,,,
But these programs are still located in their original install locations from Director 2.
All Director 2 Programs Icons are still on my desktop, and target the location of original install,, So the Director 2 suite has not been removed by the Director 4 Suite install,,

1) Is this normal ?

((( to note: Original Director Suite was uninstalled and replaced, when Director 2 Suite was installed...
So, the only way to uninstall Director 2 Programs would be to manually delete them from their install locations,,,)))

2) Should I manually remove these Director 2 programs that do not show in Control Panel>Programs and Features, but reside in their install location ?

I do have Director 4 Suite in Programs and Features, and I'm on Win 8,,,
I do not plan on Win 10 for this computer, although MS is getting very persistent,

3) Should I install all the exe files I got with Director 4 ?
Looks like it installed all programs just from the Directors Suite install,,,

Yes, it is pretty normal for Windows. Windows is not great at cleaning out left over programs that have been removed. Installing a new version of the same program does not necessary remove all of the parts of the previous program.

2) Should I manually remove these Director 2 programs that do not show in Control Panel>Programs and Features, but reside in their install location ?
That is your choice. You can if you no longer want Director 2.

I do have Director 4 Suite in Programs and Features, and I'm on Win 8,,,
I do not plan on Win 10 for this computer, although MS is getting very persistent,
From a search on how to remove the Windows 10 Icon.

There is another alternative method to get rid of "Get Windows 10" app and its icon. You can uninstall the update which actually installed this app in your system. Once you uninstall the update, it'll automatically remove the "Get Windows 10" app from your computer. The update is KB3035583 and you can uninstall it using the same steps as given in following similar article:

3) Should I install all the exe files I got with Director 4 ?
Looks like it installed all programs just from the Directors Suite install,,,

-------------------------------------

.
Yes. Some of the file are the Contents. You would only have the program itself with few of the titles, particles and Effects that are included.

Well as far as installers,,, they will do what they are written to do,,, Looks like Cyberlink allows multi-installs of even upgrades,,, Which is great if you have to dive into an old project.

I know Windows well,,, I'll just prepare and backup the 3rd party stuff, from all previous installs,,, and anything else I paid for,,, probably just move the older programs to what I call my hidden drive,,, which if needed, I can simply copy back to it's original location which I note, with an info doc,,,
Kind of like moving games not in use and needing space,,,

For Windows 10 push (which I have no issues from) here is a list of KB's that MS has presented,,,
KB’s to avoid or at least check on
http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173752-how-to-avoid-being-upgraded-to-win-10-against-your-will/

I have so many programs, 3rd party tools, plugins that are not Win10 ready,,, My system is compatible for Win10...
I still have an XP pro and Vista 64 running well,,, Office 2003 is still useful at times, lol,, as well as MD Off2007, and 2010... I still have Video Edit Magic on the XP, and all codex for use with it on XP,,, Impact 3D Pro, lol,,,
Why we have to be part geek to maintain things is a bit of a pita,,,lol,,, But just look at the tools we have and it's worth it to me,,, ahh memories,,, but I digress,,, lol,,,
