I think I did. I installed something called the "trial version", but was instructed to delete the icon after installing, so not sure exactly what it was. (Edit: yes, it was the MagicYUV Codec)

The PDF says, "The MagicYUV codec is the final piece needed to convert the videos. Magic+PD will add an icon to install the Trial version of the codec, which will allow you to experiment with the system and see how much of an improvement is possible. The Trial version places a small white-on-black logo on each clip which makes it very easy to tell when you’re working with clips in that format."

Well, when I import the .AVI file into PD14, it plays with the MagicYUV logo in black and white at the top of the file, so that's why I'm pretty sure I downloaded it. Regards,

I just reviewed the installation and setup video and I think I've done everything correctly. Perhaps there are some PD14 settings that I need to change (HA, or shadow files, or ?) Regards,

What speed HDD are you running files from? Transfer the files to a SSD if possible and try again. I think you have it! The MTS file is on my C: drive and the AVI file is on my external USB HDD. I'll try swapping it to the C: drive tomorrow and report back. Regards,

Well, I transferred the AVI file to my C:, where the MTS file is also located. The source MTS file plays very smoothly, but the AVI looks like it is playing in slow motion. Not jerky, as it was on the USB HDD, but slow.

Also, the converted AVI file is 3.0GB, whereas the original MTS file is .122GB (the AVI much more than 10x the original, which was mentioned as being typical). Regards,

Bloated? high bitrate, large file? ummm. Looks to me like the avi fits at least part of "image". In my opinion your computer is struggling to process the data and present the video. Your computer spec - 8gb of ram is light in my view Dan.
Please attach the MediaInfo of the avi for members to look at.
Change the Preview from real time viewing, that might help.
