Oh, and thank you Eric for offering your music. I'm sure I'll be using something. I also usually send links to the contributors of my finished work when I use theirs. As well as credit. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Quote: I got caught on a copyright flag with my parents video. I played "Unchained Melody" on my Yamaha FX-20 organ. So it was me playing and my recording. But because I played music somebody else wrote... I got nailed. And I learned something.

Hi, Jcardana!

How's it goin'? This thing about using music in videos is getting to be fraught with pitfalls! You got caught because the tune you were playing was owned or controlled by the estates of Alex North and Hyrum Zannet, composers of "Unchained Melody". But even if you had performed music you, yourself had composed, it is still highly likely you might be "flagged" for it. For many it is fast becoming a nuisance. Even if you didn't put any music in the video intentionally, but your camera's microphone just happened to unintentionally "pick up" some music playing on a radio or a CD/Tape cassette/phonograph player in the background, you'd still be "pinged" for it. If YouTube doesn't "pull their heads in", they'll have no content to show because their contributors will get fed up with the way they're treated.

Cheers!

Hey guys:

I basically understand YouTube want to cover their ei double es to prevent facing copyright claims or lawsuits. They also quite naturally make their life easy by using their technological capabilities of automated music title detection, not unlike Shazam on Android, for example.

I have filed a dispute against a YouTube copyright infringement claim two or three times successfully when the music was old work (classical music) produced using Linux MultiMedia Studio (available for Windows as well) from a midi file.

I also have some videos that 'include copyrighted content' while my understanding is that, depending on some criteria, some such videos may not be accessible in certain countries or YouTube may put ads in them with no income from them for me. In some of such videos the music was indeed just played publicly at an event I recorded.

What hasn't actually worked for me very well is using free music from different online sources. It gets flagged anyway, sooner or later. Unless I am perfectly confident I can dispute such a copywright infringement claim, I won't try to.

I am just trying to say I don't think this approach by YouTube is likely to change towards more liberal. You need to consider what music, if any at all, to put in your videos. YouTube is actually a good lesson in this respect. I am really careful about using music in my videos regardless of whether I want to put them on YouTube or anywhere else…

Hi, all!

This is a second attempt at replying to this post, the last attempt took too long to save, and the save failed. Jirka has summed this situation up very neatly in his post. Though he has successfully fought off claims made against him, YouTube are going to continue "flagging" people, whether they use commercial music, "Smartsound-sourced" music or even Eric Matyas's free music. It's going to cause headaches all round. Probably the trick is: make two versions of a video, one with music for showing to family/friends, one without music for upload to YouTube.

Cheers!

Hello, sprzetowoTV!

Seems you're running into the same brick wall that other YouTubers are running into. Don't worry, though! It's not your fault. The fault in this situation lies entirely with YouTube themselves with the grief they're creating for their contributors. If they persist with such behaviour, they'll eventually lose all their contributors, who'll migrate across to Vimeo or some other video-sharing website. YouTube will be the ultimate loser!

Cheers!

Could it be that now Youtube have a new youTube channel for subscription use only, that they are making life difficult for us the cheap skates ?innocent I just want to edit and make pictures, walk my dog and go fishing.

Hi, Kyle!

It could well be so! If YouTube persist in their current behaviour, how many of their contributors will throw their arms in the air and say "I've had a gutful of this" and quit YouTube, migrating to Vimeo or another(if any) video-sharing website? You see now why I've never bothered with YouTube, they're not worth all the grief!

Cheers!

Hi, all!

I was digging around in my Microsoft Publisher's "Clipart" files and found 40 different MIDI Audio files contained therein(funny place to store audio files of any type, I thought!), so I created a folder on my desktop and copy/pasted them into it for future use. I'm assuming Power Director supports MIDI audio. They were music of various lengths(that I could not determine, because holding the cursor to them would not reveal a playing time for Midi as it does with MP3 audio). But these 40 "tracks" nonetheless may find their way into some future videos I put together.

Cheers!

Thanks for that info, Barry!

In that event, I might try converting the files into a usable format with Sound Forge(I'll test my theory with one of the audio clips and see how it works, or if it will work). I'll let you know the outcome.

Cheers!

Neil.
