Lots of issues using transitions

I've been seeing a lot of issues using transitions.

First I saw an issue when using an overlap or cross transition between two clips. It would result in the second clip being completely blacked out for its entire duration, the transition would otherwise work correctly, except for the fact that it was transitioning to black instead ofthe other clip.

Before adding the transition I checked that both clips were playing correctly.

The next issue I saw was fade in and out transitions on text titles were reversed. So that the title would pop into view, fade out, pop in, pop out, fade in, pop out. Rather than just fade in, fade out as I had specified. This would sometimes correct itself when I closed and reopend the project, but it would quickly return to failing in the manner described above.

This sounds very much like an issue described a while ago in a previous version of PowerDirector. Link to the issue here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/19000.page;jsessionid=50B41700C89000484701FE227A003966

I've have the reversed fade problem, too. It's odd because I was editing a 10 minute clip with lots of fade and everything was correct, but then after I produced it, I noticed the fade was backwards. Went back into the timeline to see what was going on, all of the fades reversed themselves! Very odd bug.

Hi, TotalFluke and Terminal!

I have to say that the transition effects in PD14 are working as they should for me. I suspect something might've been corrupted in your installation. Did either of you install PD14 from a packaged disc(retail market version) or from a download? The download might somehow have been corrupted. If disc, something may have been corrupted post-installation, have either of you used any upgrade patch? Try uninstall/re-install and see if this cures the problem(retail disc). As for a fresh download(in the possible event of a corrupted first download), I'll leave that for others to advise, but if your download was free of any corruption, then something might've happened within your respective computers to cause the corruption. Store your download elsewhere for the time being(on DVD or external drive) and run an anti-virus check on your internal drive(if you have AVG free edition, or Norton, or any other such software, give it a run and see if you can detect anything that might've caused the strange transition behaviour. If all is clear, re-install PD14(from disc or download). If in doubt, consult your regular computer technician, who may be able to help.

Cheers!

Total Fluke and Terminal, I have experienced your problems with transitions with the different Power Director Versions 11, 12,13,and now 14. But, others do not experience that issue of the transitions some times working "backwards". So it must be some thing in the way I have my "settings" or my computer. I can not believe I corrupted all those different versions to cause the same issue, that you two have experienced. I have reloaded the Power Directors...but the issue continues intermiddently..it appears more often when I "modify transition", so that must be one of the keys to the problem.

Hi, LosAngeles1Native, Terminal and TotalFluke!

Firstly to LA1N, The transitions, as they are in PD11 to 14, some can be modified, others cannot, I think this may also apply in PD9. Where a transition can be modified, I might've "tinkered" with it for experiment, but dissatisfaction with the result has me taking out the "tinkered" version and puttting back the "untinkered" version. Since then I just used them as they came.

Terminal and TotalFluke, Fades working backwards? (fingers crossed)I've not come across that one! Guess I've been lucky there. Thus far the transitions are working as they should for me.

I create my own title graphics in Bitmap and superimpose them on my videos, overlaid on a PiP track white background chroma-keyed out. I put a(usually white) colour board ahead of, and behind the title graphic and chroma-key it so it's invisible, then I apply a transition onto the PiP track, some transitions don't lend themselves to this practice but others do, with spectacular results! When you get your transition problems resolved, there's a bit of interesting experimentation for you to try, if you're interested.

Cheers!

Fades running backwards, yeap, it happens every now and again PD 11, 12, 13 and now 14 .

No, I don't know why it does this but I've always thought its to do with my ubder powered set up. However, I have found that if you remove a frame or two from either the outgoing or incoming video, it should correct this issue.

The other option (which I have just suggested on another post) is to do an A+B roll edit using at least 2 video tracks. Then place the fade effect on the heads and tails of the video on the bottom video track only. You'll find the fades/transitions actually work far smoother this way. Don't ask my why cos, I can't tell you but they doinnocent I just want to edit and make pictures, walk my dog and go fishing.

What I have found...

I have 10 or so clips on the timeline. They all fade into the next.
If I trim a clip toward the right of the timeline, the previous transitions get reversed.
So I save the pds. I then open the pds I just saved. No need to close PD. The transitions are corrected. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Hi, everyone!

Jcardana looks to have found a workable solution. See if it works for any one of you, Kyle or LA1N(abbreviated for ease of writing) and let jcardana know via this forum or, if he invites you, by PM. And jcardana, sincerely, well done!

Cheers!

The funny thing is, I can't duplicate it now. Is anyone using a build lower than 2302? Maybe it got fixed? CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Hi, jcardana!

The version of PD14 Ultra I'm using is directly as it came off the installation disc. Got my fingers burned once before with upgrade builds(had PD7, off the installation disc it performed exactly as it should, then I got onto the internet and, whilst on, I had PD7 opened, a pop-up appeared with an upgrade prompt, I bit, and regretted it afterward because, with the "upgrade(?)" in place, PD7 kept crashing. A complete uninstall, then reinstall from the disc cured the problem. Ever since then I've been somewhat wary of upgrade builds, though, admittedly the one upgrade I used for PD8 hasn't given me any real grief so far, nonetheless I'm still wary.

Cheers!

Hmmmm....

I just looked at two emails telling me replies have come in to my posts, when I clicked on the links, I saw that the "replies" were, in fact, my own follow-ups to other people's posts. What gives here, Moderators?

Cheers!

Sorry been away mist the postings from jcardana till now. I can't reproduce any of the backwards transitions either even though I haven't downloaded any updates. Methinks it's a Spasmodic bug. will remember next time

Cheers I just want to edit and make pictures, walk my dog and go fishing.
