I can't work out how to pan and zoom using PD 14

Hi,

I can't work out how to pan and zoom using cyberlink. Attached is an example of what I'm trying to achieve that I made with another program. If anyone can explain how to do this using powerdirector, or even better produce a simple example project
file or point me to an online tutorial that covers this I'd be really grateful.

For the record... I'd made this using two tracks... background blurred picture ... foreground is an excerpt of the picture which sharpens in and then zooms and pans before blurring out again. I guess this can be done with PIP in powerdirector but haven't worked out how.

I'm of the opinion there are several way to accomplish your goal.

What I would do is (leaving the original photo intact) cut out the sections of the image I want to zoom in on.

Include the original image on track 1. Add the pieces in track 2.

Forget PiP designer... MODIFY the pieces, changing scale and position. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Hi Alan -

I know Joe has wrestled with the pop-out challenge before, so his approach is born of experience. Nice project Joe!

BUT this was a funny thing to write...

Quote: Forget PiP designer... MODIFY the pieces, changing scale and position.

As soon as you click Modify, you're in PiP Designer laughing

I wasn't aware that Joe was on the job, or I wouldn't have made the attached project (incuding a produced file). It just shows the truth in Joe's statement that there are several ways to accomplish your goal.

Alan - if you open either of the projects and select the insert pictures - then click Modify, you'll see how the keyframes have been set to replicate your "alternative".

Cheers - Tony

Wow Joe, Tony, You blew me away!

Many thanks. Joe's approach is what I'd done in my previous editor, and tomorrow I'll sit down and look at Tony's approach (also shows the glide that I couldn't figure).

Both examples run perfectly in my PD 14. You've saved me a whole weekend of blood, sweat and tears... many thanks

Striving for perfection...
I noticed, Tony, that you'd applied the Gaussian blur to the background picture (first track) as an effect. I'm new, so I'm probably wrong, but I found it better to apply the blur to a new track. The final output looks identical, but it has the advantage that I can switch the blur-track on and off easily. This helps me align the insert-pictures with the background.

Make sense?

Yes, of course. They're just two ways of achieving the same result.

You're right. It's easier to toggle between FX on/off using the FX track, but you can do the same if the effect is applied directly by clicking Effect (see attached screenshot).

The advantage to adding to the video or image is you can add multiple effects. If you put an effect on the FX track, you can only add one effect. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Thanks Joe,That's good to know. I've also discovered I can do this using the mask PiP. No need for creating separate stills with this method.Alan
