do you have a VCR with i-link connector?

PepsiMan - I have a few ieee 4pin to 6 pin adapter cables. The 4 pins plugs in to the sony DV camcorder and the other end plugs into the IEEE firewire connector on the back of your pc. Check this out. It only cost a few dollars: http://www.frys.com/product/4085192?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG . For my dvr I used a 4 pin to 4 pin not 6 pin. They all work. Bottom line is you have to have a 1394 firewire card in your pc and not a usb to firewire adapter for camcorder use.

Thanks guys...have given up on that and have purchased a Panasonic HC-V250. Those problems are now on the "too hard" shelf.

happy new year, Tomasc.

no, i don't need it. it was for Bunkerbaz who needed for Sony DCR-TRV18e.

i have a desktop with built-in 6pin firewire extension cord. my Asrock has firewire pins on board.

someone was selling Dell Latitude e6520 with a 4 pin firewire port for $200.00 and couldn't refuse the deal.

besides i have two Panny DvD vcrs with iLink DV connectors...

Hi, Bunkerbaz!

As you've now bought your new Panasonic camera, the Sony shouldn't be totally discarded, the capture device for VHS/Beta/Video-8/Hi-8 cameras and VCRs can capture what remaining content there is on your Sony camera by hooking it up via it's A/V connections(yellow video, red & white audio) to the capture card and record real-time to your computer. I know it's not how you wanted, but with those other doors closed to you due to incompatible connections, I guess the capture card is the only remaining option.

Cheers!

Hi, again, BunkerBaz!

A thought had just now occurred to me, what was the last software you used to successfully access the content of that Sony cam-corder? And do you still have that software? More to the point, do you still have the last computer you used to "capture" that Sony cam-corder's content, and is it still operational? If answering "yes" to any of these questions, you may have the solution to your problem! Use the older computer, with the older software to "capture all your Sony cam-corder's raw content, dropping it then onto a flash-drive, you import it to your new computer and edit it there. Just a thought!

Cheers!

Neil.

The last camcorder I used was a Panasonic several years a go and the software was unique to Panasonic. At that time I did have a firewire but that was three PC's ago. The last few years I have been making video's using digital stills and with PD (I started with PD have been happy with the results using movement etc. However I decided to get serious again and want to produce something worthwhile now that I have lots of time available. Also I will be taking a six week cruise to Asia and the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival and want to do a job of it. Baz Bunkerbaz
