The end result is that I do NOT have a firewire and do not intend to get one as the Sony is old technology and was given to me by my son who seems to think I am so mean and miserly that I will not purchase a new camcorder.
Thanks guys.... Baz
have you clicked on any of the ebay links i've posted???
let's stop saying a FIREWIRE for a second, k.
let's say you need a
mini-DV i-link cable to
usb 2.0 adapter.
(because you said you have the USB(1.0,1.1,2.0,3.0) on the laptop and or your desktop with PD14,
on the Sony TRV-18 is mini-USB, only thing you can access is the memory card. in order to access the memory
card, you have to connect mini-USB on the Sony to USB on the PC. that is the ONLY thing you can do.
memory card will also record painful 320x240 .mpg videos, too.)
so, if you buy 'that' cable then this is what you'll do.
the mini-DV connector goes to the Sony TRV-18 DV IN/OUT and USB 2.0 connector goes to your laptop or desktop
with PD14. you don't need a firewire card!
when i replied to this post, i assumed you wanted to back up your old footages from Di8 and or Hi8 tapes
so that you can edit in the PD14; however, once connected you can also use Windows Movie Maker to edit.
anyway, happy new year
