Hi Mike -

The first thing to do is either (a) slide your video down the screen to create a space or (b) apply a mask in PiP Designer so part of the video is transparent.



After that you can add your text... you could also vary the layout by inserting a colour board, image or video clip behind the main video... or add graphic overlays. That's up to you.

Is it correct that in both cases I will loose some of the video? I'm trying not to loose video but to add space above for text. Is it possible the ways you suggest?

Yes, keep in mind, one typically fits a basic frame with the video, say 1920x1080, so one can't really just add free space above existing frame.

Your option then is to shrink the video so you won't loose anything to create the vertical space at top. This will create a black column on the frame left and right edges as the video was shrunk but gives you the space at the top.

I was thinking of creating a title page that had the top portion 'blackened' and just stretching that title page over the entire timeline for how long the video duration was - essentially creating a mask like you stated Tony?!

I think that would be like a mask - I haven't actually use the 'mask' feature yet.

But that does cover up a portion of the video - the shrinking was the way to go to not lose any content - like Jeff stated.

Unlike CS2014, I wouldn't be putting such an effect along the entire timeline of a video, It would be good as an intro title effect, and possibly also as an end credits effect where the credits scroll left across the top of the screen in that black space. Just a thought.

Hi, CS!

As I said, it was just a thought! But on the subject of titles, I've learned a trick or two since installing PD14 Ultra. I've learned that each subsequent video(PiP track) behaves in the same fashion as the main video/audio track in that you can put in transitions of your own specific length(not possible in PD8 Ultra). This gave me the idea that, if I create my own title graphic in Microsoft's "Paint", if I lay the graphic on Tr.2(PiP), put a white colour board ahead of and behind it, set the white board to transparent in Chroma-Key, do likewise to the background of my graphic title, I can then experiment with using whichever transition effect that doesn't "black out" the scene in the background. I've achieved some amazing results!
