question before i buy
[Post New]
my aim (hobby) is making lyric-videos.

as of now, i only use WLMM so my options are rather limited.

eventually, i wanna make em as good as this: https://youtu.be/CEjs01ibSJk

(that's an extreme example - they used a plethora of Adobe products and an inordinate amount of time, but you get my point.)

would PowerDirector be capable of the basic tenet here?

examples?

tutorials?

i got the demo.

Hi paradive -

I'll dive in and say what other members would maybe/probably be thinking... If I was trying generate all those rhythmic text effects that echo/reflect the accent of the music, I wouldn't be trying to do it with PowerDirector.

I'm not trying to put you off, but that's quite complex stuff & would rely on the software being able to respond to beat/rhythm & have bulk text effects.

Having said that, PDR does have a mountain of text motion effects and titles/words can be keyframed in position, scale, opacity and rotation. What's that you were saying about an inordinate amount of time?

Cheers - Tony

Moderators, please forgive my post because the New Topic button only takes me to my profile and there's an issue with the PowerDirector 14 upgrade hang and the Tech Support form forbids me to ask about it without a serial number, which I don't have yet because the dang thing hung up AFTER it deleted my registered product. I am not happy that this is the only way I can get through to you guys about my problem, but it's all I've got. dslevsq@yahoo.com

yeah, i'm not looking to do anything that well.

just in general... does it have plenty of text effects and whatnot?

i usually use 1 static background background image throughout the song.

(example of one of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCXQGOCbldA )

one thing i like about WLMM is i can play right to where some vocals come in, just click pause and hit ctrl+v.

a major drawback is i can't overlay text. that is, if a new vocal line begins a half second before the previous one ends, i have to cut the previous one a half second short as i can't have 2 lines appear at the same time.

Fair enough -

PDR will allow you to apply multiple titles, all synched to the lyrics - and it does have a substantial array of different effects. It'd certainly give you w-a-a-a-y more flexibility than WMM!

These aren't the same as what you're after but they were both made in much earlier versions of PDR... before text keyframing was introduced. You could do a lot more with PDR14, for sure.

The best thing to do is start exploring Title Designer to see whther it matches what you need.

Tony!

Just watched your Karaoke clip of Eagle Rock..... Great stuff! For anyone outside Australia, a bit of trivia:

The record appeared here on a short-lived label called Sparmac( issue number - SPR-008 ) in mid-1971 and was a double-sided chart-topper with its B-side, "Bom-Bom" Both sides penned by group leader Ross Wilson, the B-side penned in collaboration with another member of the group, Newcastle-born Ross Hannaford. The Sparmac label was owned by an ex-pat American named Robie G. Porter who established his career in Australia in the early 1960s as an instrumentalist(played guitar, also sang on occasions) and recording as Rob E.G. for the Festival label here. Porter established the Sparmac label in 1970 and its first release, a song he wrote and recorded himself as Robie G. Porter, called "Gemini" dudded chartwise. "Eagle Rock"/"Bom-Bom" was the label's only major hit.

The car that can be seen in the clip is the iconic Holden FJ-model, an early 1950s remodeling of the still-more iconic 48-215 model which kickstarted the Holden line of cars in 1948. The designation of the model is: 48 for year of manufacture, 215 for engine size in cubic inches. Just a bit of trivia to break up the video-related talk. Again, Tony, great work on the video! Wonder what Ross Wilson thought of it! (by the way, I'm an ex-community radio presenter, in case you hadn't picked it)!

Cheers!

Neil.
