Replacing an existing video created by Produce

Often I run 'Produce' to generate a video, view it, and decide to make changes. After making changes in PD I want to generate the new version. I have no need for the previous one, and simply want to replace it. PD keeps telling me "A file with the same name already exists ...". I know that. I want to replace it. How can I tell PD to overwrite that existing file?

I don't want to have to keep picking new names and creating extra output files.

If I go and try to rename the existing file I can't because PD is keeping it open.

This is absurd.

Where in PD to I configure it to what I want and replace the previous file?

That's because the produced file is in your media library so it's in use. Simply right mouse click on the file in the media library and select "Delete from Disk" and then you can use the same name again. Obviously this deletes the file so caution is advised.

Shut down PD, delete the file, start PD. But I think Jeffs way might be easier.

I see. Thank you.

Where do I configure PD to not automatically import the videos it generates?

In this case here I use the option, Remove From Library, so I can save the same file (same name) of the existing one.

I do not know a way to avoid add file to library.

Close and reopen this project is, depending on the project this can take a long time. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD
Windows 7-64 / PD16 Ultimate

Thanks, yes. I discovered that today. "Close and reopen this project " was, I am sure, meant as a joke.

Among all its features PD seems to have a number of poor UX decisions that one just has to work around.
