Thanks Dafydd! I can also confirm that the QuickSync HEVC option is not available my Surface Pro 3 with an i7 4650U and HD 5000 graphics. It might be helpful to know if the feature is limited to a specific range of chips or HD xxxx versions.

I guess I didn't carefully read the official Intel page I linked to earlier.embarassed

That showed HEVC decoding for all 4th gen CPUs. Obviously this is on the encoding side. Thanks for pointing that out!

Hi
I have a number of bits of info for those I reported earlier to CyberLink. I will list them with a link to each of the posts I'm referring to.
First one: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/46365.page#240442
Hi Optodata,
Question/request.
Does the avi play in WMP? If it does and not in PDR14 then CyberLink would like you to
a) check your W10 is updated (I'm sure it is but you know techies like to check things like that to knock it off the list),
b) Contact Customer Support and provide your diagnostic data and the offending avi source.
c) Please let me have the Ticket ID so I can get the matter investigated.

Ok, onto the next one.

Hi moisesmcardona,
GPU decoding doesn't work for 4K XAVC timeline preview.

1. Please contact Customer Support, giving your diagnostic files and provide a short* sample video.
2. Send me your Support Ticket ID so the matter can be thoroughly investigated and followed up by CyberLink (I'll pass it back to CL).
*video of about 5 seconds long, point and record with your camera and upload the unedited 5 second clip to support.

Hi Anders Bixbe,
RE: HEVC UHD HW encoding is disabled
CyberLink tested the same driver v359 with GTX960, and HW encode can work normally when producing UHD HEVC video.
1. Please provide Customer Support your DxDiag, and the custom profile ini file.
" C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\14.0\Profile.ini"
2. Try to "uninstall" the VGA driver from Device Manager and do a clear VGA driver v359 installation to check again.

Please advise me of the Customer Support Ticket ID so CyberLink can follow up and further investigate*.
*I'll pass the ID onto CL.

Hi optodata,
You are already aware of the following but I'll do a write up to clarify and to give you feedback on your post.

i7-4770K doesn't support HEVC: HEVC HW encoding is only supported in Intel Skylake chipset. i7-4770K is a Haswell
chipset.

Best I can do at this time.

When I remove the K-LITE/LAV Splitter fix, AVI files still play normally in VLC (v2.2.1) and WMP (build 12.0.10586.0) but will always crash in PD14 (as well as in PD13 and PD12). I'm running Win10 insider build 10586 and all security patches and updates have been installed. The problem has been present in all versions of Win10 since 10240 was released as well as with all beta and released versions of PD14.

I've contacted tech support and provided all requested info. The original source clip is the AVI version in this OneDrive *folder* and the Question ID = CS001539392. Thank you for your assistance

I've also had several messages from tech support, and they just now referred my to my own *post* about fixing AVI issues! surprised

While I'm actually very flattered that my work-around is being used to help people with these problems, I did ask to have my report sent on to the engineering team in hopes of having the issue "officially" addressed in a future patch.

Dafydd, if there's anything else you can do on your end to make sure this is seen by the right people at Cyberlink, I'd really appreciate it!

Hi optodata,
I have chased the matter up. I fully understand.

Did the fix work?

I'll let you know what feedback I get.

As a matter of fact, it did! innocent

It also looks like the matter has been escalated, and they just informed me that they've been able to duplicate the issue and an engineer is now assigned to address it.

Things are looking promising now, so thanks very much for making sure this received the proper attention!

Hi optodatainnocent,
Yep, that's the info I received to. Good to know you've been informed.
I'm sure pleased the "fix" workaround worked ok.

Aldoxide, it's certainly your call.

If none of the issues addressed in Dafydd's initial post affect you and everything is running smoothly, I don't see any reason to update. If you do encounter anything out of the ordinary, you might want to install the patch then as there are typically other fixes, stabilzations and improvements included beyond those primary ones that were spelled out.

If that still doesn't address whatever issue has come up, then by all means post what you're seeing and let us help
