General Question-Produce to DVD

Typically I record everything in AVCHD and then create my video using PD13. When completed, I produce it with the file format of H.264AVC and select MP4 and then choose the quality of MPGEG-4 1920 x 1080/30p (16 Mbps). The output looks great on a HD screen and when I post it to Vimeo it looks great as well. Question 1, is this the best method to create a high quality file? I got to this process by trial/error and never really knew if this was the best way to do it even though i was happy with my results.

But...When creating a disk from the time line, the result is a disk with not very good quallity. I understand that with everything created in HD, the SD result would be substandard but I didn't expect it to be this bad especially when the HD MP4 video looks good on a screen that is not HD. Question 2, what is the best way to get better results in my DVD disks? Should I change some of the settings above when it is created or what am I doing wrong? I am using a basic DVD+-RW drive that came with my PC last year.

Thanks...I would appreicate any and all comments.

Joel Thanks

You could try creating an avchd disc to dvd or to say a memory stick. You would then very much preserve the quality that you are used to now. If your original video is 1080/60i then produce the same on dvd.

I just tried out an avchd disc on a pc dvd drive and it played back just fine. If you want to play the same disc on a standalone plaver then get one that support avchd discs which more likely will be a BD player.

If you want to stay with a standard sd dvd then I am not happy with all the information given in this link that preceded your post: https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/45947.page .

Let us know if this information helps...laughing

The short answer is: You are not doing anything wrong. The standard DVD disc is LIMITED to that resolution.

If you are viewing the video FROM the timeline, are you aware that you may be viewing how your display setting on PD may be set? Mine is set to 'normal' or some lower setting so I wont SEE a HD sort of preview.

Standard DVD discs, I've learned recently, are limited to a 740(??) x 400(something) resolution. ANd I agree that this IS FAR from a 1080-780 30p version. It looks pretty bad to me too - the 'standard' DVD appearance.

I'm in the market for a dvd player that will accept a flash drive formatted in NTFS format (to allow file lengths over 4GB) - so I can copy produced 1080x780 30p productions onto it(the flash drive) - that I will then take and insert into the usb on the dvd player to play at 1080X780 30p.

I"ll eventually get a burner for the computer that I'll burn/create blu-ray DVDs on but, I don't need to store a bunch of DVD discs - I can copy and play what I want to see, burn a DVD if I want to share with a friend.

Just my opinions and approach.

AndrewsJT,

If you just want to archive your videos at the full resolution using DVD disks, you can copy the files to a DATA DVD disk up to the capacity of the disk.

However I would recommend exporting the files (Pack Project Materials) to an external Hard Drive.

The Create Disk Module in Powerdirector creates a DVD Video disk which is limited to Standard Definition (720x480/576 NTSC/PAL). If burning a DVD Video, Bluray is full HD 1920x1080i.

You can use Windows or anyother Disk Burning software to make your DVD DATA disks.
