Oculus Rift support
[Post New]
Hello,

As some of you may know, the final commercial version of the Oculus Rift VR glasses will be released first quarter 2016.

Is there any plan to support that device for 3D Blu-Ray playback in PowerDVD ?

Since the device has FullHD resolution, the result for 3D blu-ray should be nothing short of impressive.

This will be a major factor for me in the future, I'll move to the first 3D blu-ray player software that supports it.

Thanks.

Hello Wildcopper,

We don't plan to support the Oculus Rift VR glasses in PowerDVD 16 at this Moment. However we will keep the idea in Background and see if there is any potential on it.

A bit sad since it's the only PC glasses so far with real Full HD in 3D. I hope you'll reconsider... My collection: http://www.blu-ray.com/community/collection.php?u=194008&action=showcategory&category=1&categoryid=7

I hope so, too.

It's hard to understand, why PowerDVD didn't take this chance ...

There are many competitors on the market who offer a PC-BluRay-Software, but currently there seems to be none who supports watching 3d BluRays on VR headsets (on the fly).

I think, that the first one who implements this will get a lot of good publicity free of charge.

It's still time to reconsider

The Oculus Rift detects as a 3D Vision display. In 3D Vision mode the nVidia drivers automatically warp the content to display it as a fixed "flat" 3D screen without head tracking.

Given that the actual resolution of each frame is only 1080x1200 stretched horizontally, the actual image quality will probably be worse than a 1080p or 1440p 3D Vision monitor. The benefit would be the huge field of view.
