I'm new at this, as you can tell by my question. I've looked at tutorials and experimented, but still having a tough time getting the hang of adding text.

As a song is played and the clips fade in/out, I want to fade the words to the song in/out. Any suggestions out there? Thanks very much! Brumblebuffin

Hi there,

I'd be surprised if you didn't get useful advice on such a topic at PD Toots YouTube channel, such as in the following video tutorial:

Enjoy…

Thanks, Jirka. I'm trying to cope with the speed of these tutorials. The slower pace and zoom into the screen used by Malick in the PD University tutorials helps a lot. All of us are not I.T. wizards out here. Brumblebuffin

I didn't know about the PowerDirector University YouTube channel if that's what you mean. For me, pausing the video does the trick in being able to follow those that I find too fast to my comprehension. Anyway, if you prefer this other YouTube channel, the following video should be the one dealing with the topic you're asking about, I think:

In my own words, I would just say you need to go to the Motion tab in the Title Designer and select the Fade effect (starting and/or ending as you desire). The effects are listed by their names alphabetically and you can also filter them with the dropdown menu just under the Effect heading; the Fade effect is in the Wipe group of effects…

Hello, Brumblebuffin!

Jirka.Bolech seems to be fairly clued up on adding text to videos. Something I've observed with PD14 Ultra which can be useful is:

Create your title text, using the "Title" track. When you've added the necessary text and effects(enter and exit, be it slide, scroll, fade or whatever takes your fancy), you can then move that text track onto one of the PiP overlay tracks. I've seen this in another brand of software I have on my computer which allowed this "trick". The other programme had the option of adding a second "text" track, but PD14, by allowing you to move the text onto a PiP track.... wow! Think of the titling tricks you can perform. Create your text on any free portion of your text track, add your effects, then shift the lot to a PiP track..... I'm getting ideas already just talking about it!

Cheers!

Neil.

P.S. cute lookin' pooch you have there!

Neil,

"P.S. cute lookin' pooch you have there!" Being from Australia, you would know about Border collies, or their cousins, the Australian shepherds. I did a little YT piece (with my old Win Movie Maker) about our farm - - look under Brumble Buffin. Our sheep shearer came over from Australia once a year and made his rounds to farms in the S.E. United States, shearing small flocks and large ones. Delightful character.

And thanks much for the PiP tip - - I'll explore this alternate strategy for overlay text. Brumblebuffin

Hi there, Brumblebuffin!

With a name like "Brumblebuffin", you could just about be an Aussie!, so, "G'day, mate!" Interesting thing with these titles, I was working on some old video content last night that I'd lifted off old VHS tapes(via capture card device through PD8 Ultra), I could not get the title to appear on screen no matter how many times I tried, and I wasn't doing anything different or "unorthodox" either. I just positioned the scrubber at the point on the video where I wanted the text, opened the Text room(clicking on "T"), pulled down the basic "default template" onto the appropriate track and typed in the text I wanted, set font face, size and colour... click on "save"..... NOTHIN'! Went through the process again.... Still NOTHIN'! Tried a third time.... GOOSE EGGS!(NOTHIN'!) Gave up, rendered the clip in PD14 minus the titling, took the rendered clip back to PD8 and put the text on there instead, having to settle for a scroll up effect instead of what I wanted. I was going to try the effect I was explaining to you in my previous post but PD14 Ultra was having bone of it! PD14 just did not want to co-operate! I've got another clip I was about to work on(before my AVG virus guard chimed in to tell me I was not fully protected. I came on-line briefly to correct that situation, then jumped off again, AVG chimed in again within the minute, telling me again that I wasn't fully protected. I repeated the process there and decided to stay on-line, thought I should make the best of it and logged in to DirectorZone, so, here I am).

Cheers!

Neil.

P.S I noticed my status has been bumped up to that of "contributor".... Gee, Thanks fellas!

Hi, All!

It seems my text tribulations have sorted themselves out. I was adding text to a video I was editing earlier today. I was putting in some "closing credits using the basic default text "My Title", setting my own specifications for font style, size and colour, and effects(used "Scroll Up"). All worked fine, but I do still have Power Director 8 Ultra on my computer to provide a back-up titling facility when and if needed.

Cheers!

Neil.
