Problems Importing

I have a DVD with some video files on it. The their are 5 large video files on it. I am trying to import them into PowerDirector Ver 7 for editing.
One of the files (they are all mpegs) will not import and gives me an error:
An error occured when opening this media file in the media library

I have tried importing directly from the DVD as well as copying the files to my hard drive (which can be done). The problem occurs when I try to import it into PowerDirector.

Any thoughts?

Can we assume the files play OK with another application eg Media Player?
Otherwise it may be a corrupted file or have errors in it. I have had similar problems from time to time.
A few free programmes can sort out stream errors if this is the case eg MPEG Streamclip.
